Yea, a lot of commercially available spray silicones are pretty useless because they're so thin they leave barely any product on the surface once dried. It's good for some applications but very few. We use Wurth branded chemicals at work and their silicone spray is a thicker more viscous oily product that stays after the solvents flash off. Fluid film and similar products are just great, they leave behind a thick off white product that's like warm butter in consistency but stays stuck to metal and blocks out moisture, similar to the old school Krown stuff they used to spray inside car frames but not setting up to a hard wax. It's pretty much the ideal product for your application, even has some lubricity too.

Actually, that description of the Fluid Film perfectly descibes the Liquid Wrench silicone lube and rust inhibitor. That was the reason I applied it with a tissue instead of spraying on directly.

 

Silicone sprays that leave a dry film are ideal for many applications. The only issue I had with CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Spray is it costs twice as much as the Liquid Wrench, which is why I wanted to try it. Besides use on a mouse pad, I've found the CRC works well on tools that are exposed to sawdust, etc. I used it once on a new sander to free up the locking mechanism for the belt tensioner that would hang up slighty, allowing the belt to slip under load. It worked perfectly and never attracted any sanding dust.

 

In the case of the DrillMate, the guide rods didn't need any lubrication since the bushings appear to be Delrin, a hard, dense, self lubricating plastic sturdy and durable enough to be used as king pin bushings in the old beam type truck front axels. A heavy coating of lube would just be wiped off. I just now checked the guide rails of the  DrillMate and the Liquid Wrench (keep in mind this is not the Liguid Wrench that is a pentrating oil for freeing up rusted screws, etc.) had not dried off like a pure silicone, such as the CRC, would have done so it may work to prevent corrosion. Still, as I said, only time will tell. It may be possible that the guide rods won't be subject to corrosion, anyway, since they appear to be a chrome vanadium or similar steel.

I am in the process of getting some stuff for my new build, guess it's about time I upgrade, so happy I'd done something so unlike myself.....I had waited. Now, with Ryzen 3k series, I guess I should snag one.

 

As a start, I have ordered 4x 8GB XPG DDR4 3200 c16 RAM.....I'm not gonna OC the CPU I have in mind to get, so DDR4 3200 is good enough. Will be back with pics of the RAM, can't build this new rig till I get back home, as in my country....

Things are coming together, I will be buying an X570 mobo when I get back from Toronto (for warranty in my home country), I have already ordered a Sabrent 256GB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. I have reserved and paid for a 3900X at a local shop here, I have to arrange to pick it up though it's a tad far.

 

Pretty stoked now, gonna get my Sabrent NVMe M.2 SSD, 4x 8GB RAM, Samsung 860 QVO 2TB SSD, a 4K Bluray or two tomorrow. I should have my 3900X by Wednesday....will post pics as proof of purchase.

I'm sneaking around the 2500H for half a year now, for possibly replacing my Onkyo TX-SR508. Not really sure how big of an improvement it will actually be, sound wise. Otherwise, I'm "only" gaining 4K passthrough support and better "smart features", currently all handled  by Chromecasts. Sadly, most mid-range AVRs cheap out on (digital) inputs.

As I'll be getting Fujifilm's 50-140mm f/2.8 zoom lens soon, I decided to get the vertical battery grip for the X-T3. 

 

Main reasons are the extra batteries it can carry as this camera can absolutely tear through them during events and also really helps with handling when mounting bigger glass like the 50-140. Also does make the camera appear a little more "Pro". 

 

Got this one second hand for $200. Barely used as well.

I made a couple of quick runs to my mail service this morning to pick up some more toys tools before I took my little (?) pickup in to get her window fixed.

 

I've been lusting for (and will be needing soon) some T-handle Torx and Allen wrench sets that have both a long and a short leg on them so I finally pulled the trigger on them on Fleabay.

 

 

The set on the left appear to be the better quality ones. They are Torx wrenches that will also fit on security type Torx screws.

 

The middle set are SAE Allen wrenches and the set on the right are metric ball end Allen wrenches (the short legs are not ball end). The Allen wrench sets appear to not be as nice as the Torx wrench set, if only judging from the stands. The Torx wrench stand is much better. Also, the Torx wrench set has the wrench size clearly marked on the handles; The Allen wrench sets are marked with the sizes on the shanks, where it is a bugger to read. I'll be spending some time with an ultra fine Sharpie marking them so I can read them.

 

Something else I've lusting for (and will be needing soon) are some Forstner bits. Since I will be needing to use one or two of them on aluminum to make shallow, flat bottomed counterbores in the not too distant future, I sprung for carbide ones from Grizzly. 

 

 

The set on the left (and in the next photo) has bits ranging from 1/4" to 2 1/8" in 1/8" increments. The set on the right (and in the second photo below) are the "inbetweener" sizes ranging from 5/16" to 2 1/16" in 1/8" increments.

A common complaint on the Grizzly site was that the bits arrived loose in their boxes. That's what happened with the first set of bits; the second set arrived intact. Another complaint was the carbide edges were dull and or chipped. After putting the bits in the first set back where they belonged, I inspected the carbide edges in all the bits in both sets and was thrilled to find all were sharp and unchipped. Carbide is very brittle so it was a bit of a surprise there was no damge in the first set during transit. The boxes are reasonably well made and they, and the bits, should last the rest of my life as long as I don't drop them or throw them around. Curiously enough, when I shook the first box and rotated it all around, the bits stayed put. I might drive in some brads to keep the shanks from shifting sideways in the boxes.
