I am not sure why they didn't give the case a once over with a can of compressed air and a damp cloth.  I get that it is the ultimate jank pc, but seriously, would anyone really not clean up the case first?

Isn't that the old Xion case that Linus ranted on a couple of years back? I guess we know where the excess stock went...or where it came from in the first place.

Kinda wish they had given the case a once over with a duster. You can get a can of compressed air for like $10 on amazon so you can factor that in i guess.

So, older gen tech for better experience? Interesting...IF the video cards had been identical (which is the proper way to do a comparison test) I wonder which would have come out on top.

Also, not seeing 300$ worth of non-GPU parts in that build. Is my math off?

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

No, the premise of the video was equal cash outlay. The comparison test in that regard was spot on and proper.

I have literally built in that Xion case over 5 times now, Its always trippy when I see it in a video. Cable management is a fucking nightmare, but after 5 builds I have a formula that works, it only takes 3 hours lmao. (Ive reused the same cheap case over and over for different computers projects)

i'm a bit dissapointed with this video. this made it seem like used cases are just all garbage. which isn't true.

like, if you just spent $5 on a case and not nothing, you probably would have gotten one with an intact front panel. all you'd need to do then was clean it up and it would functionally be just like it was new.

Probably should have done something other than use a literal garbage case ..also aim for same performance less cost vs the $500 one rather than the same price but thats neither here nor there. The main issue i had with the vid was the case, unnecessarily crap.

At the very least you should have properly cleaned and tried some DIY fixes, i mean u could have made urself some kind of replacement front panel, out of materials u'd expect ur average person to have at hand, just to make it look somewhat reasonable.

A peace of wood be it raw wood or from an old cabinet door ..anything, or a sheet of metal, or piece of acrylic etc.

When I watched this video I hated the CPU and the side of the road case.  🤮

I wish this video could have been just a little different because I'm looking for a temporary low end intel build to just get me through this time period.

I wish Linus could do a video build more like this:

No used parts.

First I was liking the look of the low end case he showed in the beginning. What was it exactly, x310 by who?

Next I wish it could have been an 10400 intel because that seems a reasonable and likely choice. Not so low in performance to be hindering too much but just good enough.

Then also no overclocking motherboard with that CPU. Something cheap but with the best features of its class, ATX, nothing odd. The best choice of what is available now (the hardest choice for me personally to make).

For GPU well that is users choice and it would be interesting to see from low to high GPU choices how the pc would perform with each one.

I would still go for the new bought but less power machine or i would save a bit and buy a better one later instead of going used parts. Used hardware can be a bitch, seen that way too often.

You could've just used a blower to get rid of the dust or buy a 'good' case for like $5 at the thrift shop you used to go (forgot the name).

I'd definitely go with that Intel rig with a cleaner case and a better cooler - also bought at the thrift store - and overclock that CPU to the limit :)

Imagine how much better that case could have looked if they removed the broken front door and bolted a cut peice of scrap wood with perriferrations for the fans on the front, cutouts for front panel connectors, and then went over it with some cheap black spray paint. Get some canned air and some lysol in there.

this is a great piece of entertainment... not supposed to be a build guide .... if you want something cheap but good invest some of your own time instead of leeching of linus and go and do your research iv just finished building a £500 pc (peripherals included) with great quality parts including a titanium psu,(bet you didn't even know that existed!) fractal design define case, 16gb crucial white led ram, crucial 500GB ssd, msi b450 motherboard, 144hz 1ms 24"monitor, good keyboard and mouse, ryzen 3 3200g (can upgrade to 3600 and gpu later)...  and all it took was a little bit of time and dedication

To be fair, even taking a rag to the case seemed like too much effort for Linus heh

I think maybe you've misunderstood my reply. I don't feel I'm being negative. I like Linus and the crew. That's why I constantly watch his videos. My impression was that's why they make posts like this one. To get creative feed back from the viewers. What you liked, what you didn't like, maybe what wowed you.

As far as leeching? I do trust his and his people's judgement on best motherboard choice for a certain type of build at a given time more then my own. I don't have as much experience as they do picking through stuff and I do often have a hard time searching for stuff but yeah it is easy to part out a build. I just want to watch him do it with my choice of a build type. No harm in suggesting that I don't think. He probably won't ever see it anyway.

Titanium psu's, I've seen them.

😁

I bought a second hand PC recently.

Well I didn't get it for 500 dollars, I got it for 550eur, but it had some solid specs.

For 550eur I got:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600

Gigabyte B450M S2H

Crucial 16Gb DDR4 RAM clocked to 3200MHz

Gigabyte GTX 1070 OC

AData 256GB SSD drive

Zalman T6 Case

and 650W PSU.

The other options I looked at were for 300eur with

Ryzen 5 3600

B320 S2H

8GB DDR4 RAM 3200MHz

RX580 GPU

120GB SSD

Case

500W PSU

Went with the first one due to overall experience as 1070 still packs a lot of punch and RX580 didn't feel in any way equal.

What do you guys think ?

Did mr su provide bios? Or was the bios mod kaby to coffee mod done at ltt. Is 1151 kaby to coffee pinout mod accomplished with bga to lga pcb? Or did it require end user isolate pins? Really kinda skip over only interesting information to provide humor and drive home the fact intel cpu not cost effective in new build. Love channel anyway. So far my emails and messages to seller re bios mod go unanswered. I believe i can perform bios mod myself. I got over a month to figure it or brick it before crazy chinese cpu arrives anyway
