Don't get me wrong, performance in a vacuum is great, but it doesn't innovate on Price vs Perf based on what the market is already offering. If you were in the market for this, you would've bought a 580 already or went to the Ti.

Linus used "1660" as shorthand for the 1660 ti in his last video, how confusing.

 

Also, it's slightly more performance than a 580 for slightly more money, so just get a 580. What is the point of this.

The general consensus seems to be that it's the best bang for the buck but I tend to disagree. The results vary too much from one game to another, and in some games the performance gap with the 1660Ti is way too big and the one with the 1060 is very minimal in others. I don't think it makes more sense to upgrade from a 1060 to a 1660.

Then comes the price. At a starting price of $220 it's not that budget-friendly and you can expect models going as high as $250 or more, so you'd be better off with a 1660Ti. For people on a budget, RX 580 are found pretty often under $200 bundled with 3 games. I can forgive the ~10% difference in performance for that. RX 570 also have the best price/frame ratio at the moment. I've also read that some 590's have been discounted to $220 today so now you have to choose between 8% more performance or 3 free games.

I think that the 1660 sits somewhere in between. People on a budget would probably be better off buying an AMD card while the others should get the 1660Ti instead, so I don't know who that card is for.

Turing picks up big % increases in the games it had trouble in. Moving to Async allows them to pick up a lot of performance in games where RX Vega, especially, tends to fly.

 

The 1660 is a decent card if it stays around MSRP. The 1660 Ti is likely to age better, though, because of that memory bandwidth.

 

Edit: though anyone with a 1060 has zero reason to upgrade. Just drop from Ultra to High and the difference won't be a problem.

580 uses more power, which means it produces more heats. This can be important for smaller form factor builds and laptops especially.

Same story as 580 vs 1060, so price/performance is basically unchanged in head to head. Also, 580 in sff is no big deal, people will use 1080s and whatnot and it's still fine.

This card is just garbage. Basically the same price as the gtx 1060 6gb last generation, and the performance is mixed. It pulls away in some (Clearly the small architecture improvements made) but stays the SAME in others. How can they justify a card that is not better than last generations equivalent? It's embarrassing.

 

I come to the conclusion that a previous generation RX 570 is still the 1080p king, and has still not been taken off the throne. Maybe the 1650 will change that, but by the looks of things it will perform a tiny bit better for a tiny bit more. That means that Nvidia have been able to match Polaris from last gen in regards to price and performance. WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT. Clap clap clap. I'm sure everyone can't wait for Navi to pummel these nonsense turing gpu's into submission, at least at the low and mid range.
