Asus PB287Q a 28" 4K panel for $799!

asus-pb287q.jpg

Following the PG278Q ROG Swift posted earlier, Asus has introduced the PB287Q which lacks G-Sync but serves up a 28" 4K panel for the same price of $799.

It sports a resolution of 3840x2160, 350 cd/m² luminosity, and 1-ms gtg response time. Inputs include Displayport 1.2 and MHL-HDMI (not sure which version-not that it matters). It'll be able to tilt, swivel, pivot and change height as well as VESA mounting. It'll also come with a pair of 2W speakers if you care.

Considering how their current 31.5" 4K monitor is selling for over $3000 I wonder what sort of compromises they had to make and how it will compare to competing products from Dell and Lenovo. That 1ms response time does sound nice but that generally means it uses a TN panel, but I really hope I'm wrong.

The monitor is planned for release in Q2 2014.

this can't be true... you can buy 1440p monitors for that price... :o

Yup, Asus themselves just announced a 1440p TN panel monitor for the exact same price earlier today :P.

It's probably a TN panel with that low of a response time.

Yeah, I'm guessing the same  :(

I will wait until when I can buy a 300$ GPU that can run 4K games at about 40FPS.

so you guys are saying you wouldn't have a 4k monitor due to it being tn? wow

If I am spending 800$. I want the best panel I can get for the price and that isn't.

TN panels are like HDD and IPS panels are like SSD's. After you use IPS/SSD, you can't go back to TN/HDD.

Yup. I'll wait till I can get good quality 4K IPS korean panels xD. Considering how long it took 1440p, by that time I'll be on my pension though...

But with freeSync you still need a panel that support it, and only a driver update for the Gpu

It's probably a TN panel with that low of a response time.

This is what I was thinking. Probably uses the same panel as the 28in dell.

$10 says this supports it.
