Asus PB287Q a 28" 4K panel for $799!

I was planning to get the PA279Q soon... but now I am not sure if I should wait for this one. What do you guys think?

Well this is going to likely be a TN panel and the PA279Q iis one of the highest end 27in IPS displays you can get. So it really depends on whats important to you.

what is wrong with all those companies releasing crappy TN panels? -.-

is there ANYTHING epic going on at CES this year? :/

CES was total garbage.

Computex better raise the bar.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

The worlds most expensive TN panel. No thanks!

I'd spend ~1500$ on a 28+ inch IPS 4k with 60hz instantly, but there is nun :(

TN panels are like HDD and IPS panels are like SSD's. After you use IPS/SSD, you can't go back to TN/HDD.

but tn is faster than ips. Tn does consume less power than ips. So can we say tn is the ssd of monitors :P

There ill be the dell 24in which i would pic up since I like 24in and that pixel density man.

Umm, sorry but no. I would like to point out however that 4K is mostly irrelevant still because until there is content for it no one will have a reason to buy it for anything other than bragging rights or possibly productivity and pro stuff's. The other thing is is that the Dell 28in TN only does 30hz @4k so just a heads up the ASUS is likely the same.

Doesn't 24 inches sorta defeat the purpose of 4k? everything would be tiny

I would have to disagree when it comes to PCs, 4K can be very useful for productivity and you can just switch to 1080p for scaling and watching video and it'd scale perfectly. That said Windows' scaling is quite terrible, so you either have to make do with tiny text everywhere, a blurry UI or completely defeat the purpose by scaling the UI as if it were 1080p, so you do have a point.

this can't be true... you can buy 1440p monitors for that price... :o

I am starting to think that 2.5k panels are really inefficient to make. That is the only thing I can say to explain the high prices of 2.5K monitors.

but it would look all sorts of sharp with scaling even if you didnt make stuff 4x as big. So no that woould depend on what you choose as your scaling factor.

I said useful for productivity and pro stuff (put prosumer in there as well). 8 and especially 8.1 got a bunch beter with the scaling.

refresh rate? if its frame locked for 4k at 30fps im gonna scream.

That likely if it uses the same stuff as the dell which is likely. 30ps is enough for desktop stuff though.

Can't wait for 1440p to drop in price

it likely wont 4K will just replace it once prices get low enough.

@TheProfosist I just feel like everything would be tiny, and even if I was to play a game in fullscreen, I feel like some of the details would be wasted since the pixels would be SO tiny, I'm not quite sure how PPI works, but is it the # of pixels divided by the size of the monitor?

If so it's like... 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 (8.29m)  8294400/24 = 345,600 (345.6k) PPI?

So does that mean its 345,600 ppi?

Umm its actually calculated quite weirdly http://goo.gl/p4kddI this is due to the fact that our displays are measured diagonallly.

250 ppi then, I guess it's not that bad 32 inches is 187.5 ppi, I just worry I won't even be able to see all the details that are there, due to the pixels being tiny.

Otherwise I'd probably get one of those 24" 4k IPS 60hz monitors from dell, they're only like 1200$

IDGAF If it's TN or not, I'm not dissapointed by the colors of my crappy TN panel, but the fact I can see pixels. This as well with a Maxwell GPU that can run it properly is my next purchase, unless IPS panels start popping out for the same price until then.

What's your current setup?

I have money for new monitors, but idk what I want yet :(.

After tax returns come back I'll have like 2500$ to spend, I really wish the 32 inch 4k 60hz ips were closer to 2k, and not 3k, I'd buy one right away :(

But true on the 4k content part, I didn't think of that.

I'll probably just get 2 pb278q, save the rest of the money and buy a 4k ips monitor,  then use the 2 pb278q's as side monitors and the 4k one in the middle, that'd be badass :o
