if you have to ask your parents for permission to play a game, she is probably right about you being too young to play it.

IF you are under 12, just listen to her. If you are over 13 literally write an essay on the reason why you should be able to play it and why it isn't violent. Plus let me add that everyone else is playing it is not a valid argument and fortnite is also trash

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

A game where you run around and shoot other players is by definition violent. Your mother is correct on that. Why she will not let you play is her reason alone and while I could suggest some talking points to you, it is ultimately up to your mother to decide what is best for you while you live under her roof.

  1. If the reason you want to play is because your friends play, you may be able to make a point about it.
  2. If you show that you're mature enough that a game like that would not affect you in a negative way, it could help change her mind.
  3. Speak to her about it. Explain to her if you know the difference between cartoon violence and real violence.

These are not guarantees of course but might help to give you ideas to better establish communication instead of an "because I said so" type of answer.

You're probably not going to change your mother's mind on the fact it is a violent game.

You will have a better chance by proving your responsibility and ability to separate reality from fiction, and explain it's a good outlet for your frustrations.

You do this by acting mature and not posting on forums whining about your mom, for starters.

For real, the best way to approach is to ask her to watch you play for 20-30 minutes, and make a decision based upon what she sees from you, the other players, and the environment as a whole.

seriously Im surprised how "normal" it's considered for kids like 9 years old to play it. Young kids playing shooters was always a thing if their parents didn't care but this is somehow 100% normal for you 9 ear old to play online shooters? Even without the shooting part 9 is a bit young for online cancer exposure.

Just show her a game. She'll eb the judge of whether it's too violent or not. Since she's your mom, you should listen to her opinion rather than just do it while she's gone.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Probably should listen to your mother. If not she should give you first hand knowledge of the violence you feel you are missing out on.

that's simple actually. your mom knew there was no chance of you shooting aliens in the real world.

you CAN shoot people in the real world. Which aliens and robots, etc, it's perceived as the pleasure is derived from the thrill of aiming and being in control, whereas the perceived joy of shooting people is just that, which is worrisome if you don't game and realize that we don't want to shoot humans, we just like shooting and playing games. We can separate the two, despite popular belief.

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

I have no idea what the Fortnite player base is like so you may have a point there. Though what I find more scary is how many little kids seem to have access to snapchat, FB, and Twitter...

pretty much.

When I was young (and this was before most major socal media platforms were popular) I kept anonymous and stuck to forums and irc. TBF, had I not been prepared in the way I was, I was probably way too young to be online. 11-12~ is too young for the shit I saw.

maybe it's because I was raised by two parents who came from shitty families and overcame those difficulties but I was exposed to gta when I was 5

how the hell are parents thinking that fortnite is too violent
