Wow...things have changed since I was around.

Fuck, my first post on here three years ago was discussing whether AMD could make a comeback or not. Obviously times have changed but I haven't followed the PC market in so long and it's crazy now.

Even cases are hard to decide on with all of them just being lights and glass. I remember when the HAF X was considered cool.

How does one find their way through this modern realm of PC building?

I've thought about buying a new one myself, or another 780T since they are the best cases I ever personally had. Only thing that bothers me with the HAF X is I'd have to buy a FireWire header card since dead ports drive me crazy lol. Even then, since all FireWire cards share ports, I'd be stuck with a dead one on the card if I decided to use the header. Fucked no matter what eh...

I can see that, but he's still one of the more respectable and reputable tech journalist around imo.

Always start with what you want to accomplish with a new PC and start asking questions on what would be a good fit for that.  Are you gaming? Gaming and streaming? Just watching Netflix?  Once you have that a recommendation can be made so you don’t overpurchase or underpurchase

I mean, considering he managed to influence basically all of Cooler Master's upcoming case designs, I wouldn't call his videos over-technical or boring, I'd just call them interesting to the people who seem them as so.

Yes times have changed and as you get older time flies by. Makes me wonder how old Linus is, plus he age discriminates by hiring only young people ;/

AMD is good now, Intel uses mayonnaise as thermal paste, RGB + let's choke airflow with glass front panels is still a thing (why) and a 1TB SSD is actually affordable.

That should get you up to speed.

Yes! Ok...I gotta say that the Gamers Nexus articles are far better for that purpose. And they're very well written. You can really get to the meat of the subject without having to sit through a dragged out summary of benchmarks and numbers.

I think I figured out 2018's build style...

Black parts, RGB LED tape, and tempered glass

It does look nice but I do miss the classic cheesy gaming cases with meters on the front or other gimmicks

Hmm, great replies here...thank you guys.

I believe I'm gonna do what I did in 2014 and save up to build two PC's at once, as having both an AMD/AMD and Intel/Nvidia rig just excites me more. Plus I feel like building two similar performance once just helps me keep the quality up, in like some weird competition with myself way if that makes sense.

What I have in mind so far is a 2700X, Vega 56 Nitro, Prime X470 Pro, another 780T as I had the case before and loved it, and then whatever Ram, PSU, Storage, etc I decide on.

The next build will be an 8700K, 1070 Ti Amp Extreme, TUF Z370 Pro, Cougar Panzer Max as it has all the same support and similar side panel latch to 780T (best open mechanism ever), and it matches the other parts. Then I'll do the same as the AMD build with just decide the other parts as I go along.

I wanna hard loop both but soooo much money so idk. The parts I have listed alone, I'll have to buy here and there over the course of a few months. It should be fun though eh. Just hope I don't end up selling them for ridiculously cheap like I usually do when I get bored of PC's.

Honestly if you have enough money foor these set ups I would look at a higher end x470 board.

Eh I used to be all about banking on high end mobos. Before I has a P8P67 WS Revolution and a Crosshair V Formula Z.

There wasn't much reason though. The P8P67 WS board did let me OC on ROG levels...while having the actual internal USB ports I used to love. Outside of that though, I didn't really utilize it to near it's true potential.

The Crosshair was just incase I ever wanted to upgrade to a 9590, while also getting that red color scheme and Asus Bios.

From what I've looked up about the Prime Pro, it's perfect for my needs...and looks cool which is most important :D

Lol just a cheap prebuilt HP all in one with an AMD APU from back when the were pretty much trash.

I haven't really needed anything else honestly as it works Google just fine, and can run WoW...to a degree. Got a new job though that pays well and with money comes luxury when you're an impulsive dumbass like me lol.

anytime you come into contact with additional money; do something to lock most of it away from yourself. So you can build a *real* savings. Like anything it'll be hard at first... but once you get used to it and your mindset changes then you'll be well off. :)
