All complaints about moderation that I have been made aware of have either been completely unfounded or the result of misunderstandings or miscommunication, but if there was a case of moderator abuse then we would consider that to be a serious problem, and deal with it accordingly.   C

I've studied Chinese for 6+ years, am still no good at it, and definitely not fluent in it. Chinese culture interests me, but the language is eh... I find it difficult to learn.

 

I learned Japanese through self-study and Duolingo. It's more interesting than Chinese, IMO. Started with hiragana and katakana, and used my existing knowledge of Chinese to fill in some kanji gaps.

 

And I slipped in some Malay earlier. I'm rubbish at Malay. Just, like... no. 🤣

 

Edit: I'm not Japanese.

これはひらがな。This is hiragana.

これはカタカナ。This is katakana.

これは漢字。This is kanji. 漢字 translates to "Chinese character."

 

只是中文。This is Chinese.

 

Japanese uses a lot of hiragana and kanji, with some katakana mixed in if some foreign terms are used. Kanji uses or resembles a lot of Chinese characters. (Not all kanji characters are Chinese characters, IIRC.)

 

Chinese is all characters.

It certainly is easier to learn than Mandarin, and don't get me started on Cantonese (tones are WAY too hard).

 

Haven't learned much about written Chinese though, I thought I would learn with my daughter but since she's already having issues in English and French, my wife decided it's better to focus on those than written Chinese.
