2003 Acer TravelMate 800. It's one of the first Pentium M laptops and it has the best mobile graphics card that was available at the time.

It can run some light web sites and it can even play 1080p30 videos on VLC.

 

Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz

512MB RAM (I'm planning to upgrade it to 2GB)

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 64MB

80GB HDD

15" 1400x1050 screen

I like how it was billed as "lightweight" at six pounds. And you know Acer's claimed 8-hour battery life probably meant something like 3-4 hours in real life!  This was the dark days when Windows PC makers would flat-out lie about battery life (they still tend to pad quite a lot).

 

It reminds me that Apple, for all its performance challenges at the time, had some pretty competitive systems.  My 867MHz PowerBook G4 from that era was as fast (including a Mobility Radeon 9000) but weighed 'just' 5.4 pounds and lasted for 4-4.5 hours in real-world situations.

When I was very young, though, even 8GB was cavernous!  There was a time when it was a big deal that a game wanted over 100MB for an installation (and I still have flashbacks to Blade Runner's optional 1GB install being huge).

It probably wouldn't be too far from 8 hours with the slower 1.3GHz CPU, standard 65W battery and additional 40W(?) battery.

Some reviews mention almost 5 hour battery life on BAPCo MobileMark 2002 battery life test with the normal 65W battery and 1.6GHz CPU.

Yeah, the one on top is a SuperMicro. It has X7DWN+ motherboard, 2x Xeon E5450 3.0GHz, 40GB RAM and 6x 500GB HDDs. I'm planning to upgrade it to 64GB RAM, it does support up to 128GB but the bigger sticks are too hard to find (and expensive).

 

The bottom one is a Dell PowerEdge 2950 III with 2x E5420 2.5GHz, 32GB RAM and 4x 146GB 15K SAS HDDs

Hey everybody. Just watched the Tech Hoarder episode of LTT and was compelled to finally join the forums. I work for a tech recycler and I come across all kinds of old, interesting stuff. Looks like ya'll might appreciate some of the stuff. I'll limit it to just the computer stuff as I am guessing there is a thread somewhere for old vintage tech in general?

I have the Coax network cards and cables somewhere, but this T-piece was in the drawer with the other stuff.

 

The floppies for DOS are on the other side of the package... I've got similar packages for Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME as well as cds of Chicago and Memphis, but i'm not digging them out, they're in boxes in the garage... With the coax cards now that i think about it... there's a 486 back there somewhere too...

Actually my university had a computer room with a bunch of I5 workstations every last one of which (about 20ish) had a ball mouse... I started every class in that lab by picking the crap off the rollers with my fingernail.

When i was young you had to put in a floppy, tell it copy and put in the new floppy, then take out the new floppy and put in the first one, then take out the original and reinsert the new one one last time, because 1.4MB was more ram than most systems had so it couldn't copy the whole disc in one go...
