Do you mean weld the gears to create a full time locked diff, or like weld a diff to your trunk lid? 

 

Both are not a great idea.

People tend to weld their diff. If you can't afford a LSD it's an easy solution

Suggestions for a muffler for the KA24DE?

I want something kinda quiet at city cpeeds, but something that sounds mean at high RPMs but not too loud that I have to crank my stereo way up.

A reactive muffler from flowmaster mayhaps? properly sized

Don't get one of those round fart can tubes if you want something less obnoxious.

I'm pretty bad at aftermarket exhausts (I mostly get stuff at a swedish manufacturer called simons and weld it)

Cherry Bomb Vortex. Best performance muffler I've ever used. NO high-pitched fart can sound, no rasp and NO DRONE. They give a very low, mellow sound at idle and while cruising, but you'll definitely hear it when you step on it. I've used them on everything from my 1.6L Civic, to our turbo MR2 race car to a V8 Fiero ice racer, and I have now just ordered one for my Golf 1.8T just the other day. 

 

They're not very well known and can be hard to find as I'm not sure if they even still make them. If you're in the US, you're in luck because Jegs and Summitracing both carry them (for now) for a really good price. They don't look like much on the outside, but trust me, they sound amazing and are actually solidly built.

On V8 muscle cars, yeah, the 40's sound awesome. but on a 4 cylinder, not so much. ;)

 

The Cherry Bomb Vortex sounds good on pretty much any engine. :)
