Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

The guy who did my touch up worked mentioned that blue and red paint is the most expensive. A half pint of my Ford Kona Blue cost him I think $100 (he showed me)

He repaired this scratch which cost me $450, and that was for a job that didnt pull all the panels off. I had quotes over $1100 because there was labor included to take off and put on the door and quarter panel.

Nice, less orange peal in the paint as well. Might have wet sanded and used a rotary on it after painting.

Different paint colors can vary unbelievably in price.  It’s due to the pigment.  I’m mostly familiar with artists pigments which are often very old. So much so that paints are named by pigment used.  Think of the price difference between carbon black (carbon) and cadmium yellow (cadmium.  Don’t eat the yellow btw.  It’s not even the worst one but it’s bad). There was a revolution in the 19th century in the form of coal dyes.  They could make any color from coal.  The problem is they send to fade in light. It’s called lightfastness.  Cards are in bright sunlight all the time and have to have very lightfast pigments.   The old lightfast red pigment was iron oxide, which is cheap.  It’s not a pure red.  More of a brick red.  Bright reds were different pigments. Rose madder was one.  I don’t remember what’s in it but it’s both expensive and really poisonous.  Some really old bright colors like greens actually used powdered gemstones. Old Barns are traditionally red because iron oxide was a cheap paint and barns need a lot of paint.  The family home was white because white pigment was lead oxide and lead was more expensive.  It’s titanium oxide now.  Lead is poisonous.  A white barn used to mean the farmer was rich.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Ford clear as of late isn't super hard, it's pretty medium. A good compound with a medium pad will take down a lot of the worst orange peel in the paint. I accidentally took a bunch of peel out of the hood of my girls 16 Escape while removing a bunch of scratches from a dirty snow broom. The Last Cut and a Urofiber 50/50 pad was all it took to get it looking decent.

Currently going around the car with clay and some Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Acrylic polish to knock out some minor blemishes then I'll hit it with their matching spray wax ceramic sealer stuff and probably a top coat of Mothers CMX after 24hrs over the whole car. Should give a solid 3 months of protection at least, I doubt it'll get washed for 3 months lol.

Either I'm OCD or I'm stupid, probably a little of both, but I'm polishing the roof of her stupid 16 Escape. It's actually making a tangible difference in the visible gloss up there so maybe it's not pointless, at least it'll be smooth and protected up there!

More and more I do detailing the more and more I get frustrated with regular waxes etc. I decided to switch to just using ceramic coats on my cars now.

Waxes have their place still, nothing looks quite as nice and wet as fresh carnuba on a dark car but coatings are sure catching up. CMX looks really nice on metallic clear coats but doesn't give the same depth on single stage colors.

I was talking strictly from a protection standpoint. Traditional waxes and sealants don't really hold up as well. As for gloss and look really depends on the product your apply/paint quality. As well as the coating your comparing it too. By and large after paint correction I'd choose a ceramic coat before I go to an off the shelf wax or sealant. Only thing I liked that came close to ceramic coats is the hybrid waxes.

I'd win the On-Ramp contests cause RS handling.  But that straight line stuff?  Lol.  800whp Hellcat, I just got nothing for that.  I couldn't even throw enough nitrous at the car to keep up without blowing the head right through the hood.

Watching that hellcat go full throttle was like watching Spaceball 1 go to Plaid.
