Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I'm here let me grab my laptop.

the cheapest way is to get used/oem parts for the more high end civics. I've got an 2000 EX coupe that is front disk rear drum but the Canada version had 4 wheel disk.

the car that is cheaper is my dads 69 Chevy Malibu https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-bk1623/year/1969/make/chevrolet/model/chevelle

@The1Dickens

EDIT, I was going off of memory. I can't seem to find the kit now and maybe it was just a promo on a willwood kit but I remember seeing a new rear disk swap for 350-450$.

They’re all on the nose cap and the nose cap is plastic iirc.  One cheapass solution might be covering It with an auto bra.  Not a fix exactly.

Yeah, that's what the previous owner told me, but to be honest I hate the look of those bra's, especially with the racing stripes.

I think this must be a different bumber from stock, as it doesn't fit with the rest of the body kit either, so I assume whoever had this before cheaped out and did a single coat of the color with no prep work.

Either someone whacked something pretty good or they had it painted and the painter didn't add the flex agent to the paint which is why it cracked and flaked off when bumped/flexed. Lots of places do that because they don't want to mix two batches of paint and paint the bumper separate.

That's what I was afraid of. Seems lots of older kits for that generation of Honda have gone end-of-life. It didn't help that the HX is the bastard child of the Civic family, and almost nothing is a simple swap over without some modification, or extra (not normally needed) parts.

Yeah unfortunately a previous owner did a lot of not nice things to this beautiful car just in the name of doing things as cheaply as possible...

I guess I'll just wait it out and maybe sand and repaint the bumper next winter...

I'm on an EX coupe parts are easy to find still.

Hell gen 6 is I believe the only gen you can swap J types into. Which I really want to do but I don't have the 10-12K needed to put on in a clone of my civic.

The HX is the max efficiency without going hybrid model iirc

they even had lean burn modes. The 2002-2005 HX models anyway; and they sip gas if you stay in the lean burn “zone”

not that sipping gas is worth doing anymore  after today lol

there is a point. I'd love to be able to go 300 miles on sub 20$ but I'm in California which means if I'm lucky gas will reach 2$ a gallon.

Yes, that is correct. With the CVT, it just not a good driving experience for me. Engine bay, cylinder head (I think the block, too), suspension parts, ECU, even the interior if memory serves, all to save weight and sip fuel.

Interesting.  Boating and golfing are both allowed in Minnesota.  It’s the party boats and group rentals that aren’t allowed.  Pretty much anything you can do 6 feet apart in the open air is allowed.  You’ve got to do it six feet apart though.  Minnesota doesn’t have a lot of beaches though and here boating is a pretty solitary activity.  Waterskiing May develop issues as well.  Too much contact getting in and out of the boat.  Families only perhaps.  There’s a lot of stuff that has to get ironed out.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I assume in the next few weeks I'll be able to. Considering it got used once last year and spent most of the time getting the trailer after some idiot ran it over, it needs more time out. Nothing quite like taking 1970s truck motor and strapping it to a jet drive.

My suspicion is the second the US goes from a net oil exporter to an oil importer again gas is going to go right back where it was.

I’d say there are a lot of things like it, and I don’t want to do any of them.  Overpowered boats have a habit of going airborne and flipping over backwards.  Seen it happen. Tunnel hulls are particularly bad about it, but it’s in no way exclusive to them.

it is an 18ft fiberglass short draft hull. I've only ever gotten it upto 35-45, I'd expect it can maybe do 60 but I got 0 interest in that.

18 feet is kind of marginal for more than about 300 horse.  A lot of it depends on what kind of weather and water you go out on.  My dad had a 24” chrystler cutlass (which is a particularly dorky sailboat from the 1970’s) it was the biggest thing on the water most of the places we took it to in Minnesota, but when he retired to the Chesapeake bay the thing was a miniature joke boat.  Even the bathing suit boats were bigger.  He also had a ln 18’ aluminum high transom Lund fishing boat.  Couldn’t bring it with him when he retired because if you put an aluminum boat in salt water the bottom falls out in a couple weeks.   That had a 40 horse which was enough for fishing but not much else.  It could have handled 150 horse I think.

I'm on big lakes for California like lake beriasa its always get up and get on there in the morning and leave by 2-3 as it gets to windy and choppy. given its 3-4ft from the bottom to the high edge of the sides it doesn't do anything other than calm water.

My dad would have called it a flying soap dish and scowled.  He was big on boat safety.  It’s why he had a high transom fishing boat.  Low transom boats are fine as long as you got the motor going but if it cut out the boat settles out of plane and the stern wake will creates its own wake and slap you in the heinie.  If the transom is low enough it can be enough to swamp the boat.  He had some friends in the sixties die because of that one.  Motor cut out when they were trying to beat a rainstorm back to shore.  Boat swamped and they spent a night in the water.  3 people in the boat one lived.  My dad was supposed to be the 4th but he had some sort of issue and couldn’t go.  The survivor still spent a couple weeks recovering in a hospital.  Dudes name was Jerry Johnson.  Big old Swede.  As a kid I always thought he lived because of sheer cussedness and the square cube law.

If the transom is low enough it can be enough to swamp the boat.

oh yeah its S turns before stopping at any sort of speed.

does toss a nice wake for tubing or skiing though and its easy to tow.

I’m sure.  24” is basically the max reasonable tow length.  18’ is great.  I spent large portions of my childhood in cars towing that fishing boat.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

When they arrive ill be fitting my new alloy radiator, intercooler, cambelt, accessory belts, waterpump and thermostat.

How is it being able to see at night again?

To be fair you can make almost any car accept any engine just about what you are willing to give up.
