Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I'm really loving my Lexus LS430 Ultra Luxury that I bought last year. I wasn't even looking at buying Lexus. I was honestly looking at buying an S Class if I went full luxury or an E39 540i with a manual if I went the fun sports sedan route. This car just kind of popped up because a family friend was selling it and really wanted it gone. I could not pass up the price. I was going to flip it and even now with the repairs I have done, I could sell it and make a handsome profit but I've fallen in love with the car.

It is just so comfortable and has so many features that are impressive for '04. At 6.5ish 0-60 it isn't that fast but for a two ton car, that V8 moves the car pretty well. Considering it's a full size luxury sedan with a ton of features, that isn't that bad. When you gun it, you feel like you have plenty of power. And it handles surprisingly well for being a boat. I leave it in sport mode all the time since it tightens the handling and I want to be able to dodge dear and animals better. I live in the country so it isn't uncommon to have to break three times for animals when I run out lol.

This car has really turned me onto Lexus. What a brand. I can't believe they make such amazing luxury cars but they are extremely reliable. They put BMW and Mercedes to shame when it comes to reliability and I love both those brand. I actually used to own a 190D back in the day.

I still really want the 540i and now that I have a super reliable luxury car, I think the BMW is even more appealing. It won't be as big of a deal if it breaks now that I have a good daily car. Originally I was thinking if I bought the 540i as a primary, I would need to buy a Civic or something as a backup but now I think the Lexus will be my primary and BMW will be my fun car.

I honestly think the LS430 is one of the best values for those looking to get into a luxury car for under $10k USD. You can get so much car. It even has some modern features like adaptive cruise, breaking for things in the road, and proximity door unlocking/keyless start. On a 2000-2006 car that is pretty impressive. You can get into one of these for $5-10k depending on how pristine you want it and which package/options it has.

But you know what. Despite really wanting a fun sports sedan with a manual and being love with the e39, the Mercedes SL55 AMG is really calling to me as a fun weekend car. For the price, it is really hard to beat that performance. And just look at that hard top action. Damn. The car is sexy and fast. Plus, from what I understand, it is super easy to upgrade the supercharger pulley and get some extra HP

I'm really thinking that will be the next car I purchase. Definitely not now during the winter. I'm hoping this upcoming summer I can pick one up. I just can't stop thinking about it.

i've always wanted a 2nd gen LS400 with the vvti motor, it's not as plush or loaded as the 430 that replaced it, but it's got plenty of power and it's still somewhat moddable.

and you should go full send and go e39 m5. bypass the 540i and just get that sweet 5.0 v8.

The great thing about the LS400 is that a manual swap is totally doable. I would also love to have one and convert it over and make it a fun car with comfort. One day I would like to do this. The 400 is really a great car.

I don't like car payments. I like to buy my cars with cash which is why I buy older higher end cars. So to buy a sorted e39 M5 I would have to dip into my savings in my current financial state. I could probably swing one on the cheaper side with a bunch of problems but I don't want to have to deal with that. So I'm kind of in the situation of settling for the 540i which is still amazing and much more affordable both in initial purchase price and maintenance or just get the SL55 AMG.

The SL55 AMG will blow the doors off the BMW in terms of 0-60 and it is a hard top convertible. But the e39 is one of the most beautiful sedans ever built and offers a 6spd manual. What a choice. I'm not looking to do this until later next year anyway though so I have time to think.

911 still beats that :(, I don't think they've ever changed the outward design.

Lies, 15 or so years ago they had slightly altered headlights. But then again this could have been a faulty production run... So nevermind, you most likely are right...

I think a different engine is a bit more than altered headlights, so would be safe lol

It would look less...wrong if it had 2 doors yeah. idk it just doesn't work in my mind despite the individual parts generally being ok.

funny you say that, i actually wanna do that. i think i might do it when the automatic truly saps any fun from the car. that 5 speed might be adequate but there might be a time when i do want some engagement. i just need time and money lol. but if i buy an ls400, it has to be the facelifted 98-00 models with the 5 speed auto. 4 speeds suck to me and i'm not a fan of the styling of the pre 98 models. the plan is to make a somewhat fun vip cruiser that allows for some fun driving.

and the e39 is indeed one of the best looking cars of all time. i don't ever think bmw will ever create something as good looking as that ever again, seeing their new stuff is too wild. the e39 is subtle enough, yet it just exudes confidence and sexiness with its lines. that m5 will never be as fast as a new one, but it sure as hell has a lot more character.

Had a nice thought as I was cycling home today. My drivers seat needs replacing and my centre console is broken as well. What if I just took both of them out and put a couch in there?

as long as you can fit a seatbelt buckle to it and you're ok with little/no bolstering and you can securely fasten it to the floor, i don't see why not.

family is looking at a new plug-in hybrid or full electic car that can take 4 people and with luggadge. needs a 300km range at least and budget is about €40 000(400 000 sek) or so, anyone got any suggestions?

it might actually be this. as I'm attempting to recover data with my pc over the next few days(or weeks or months), and 3 drives seem to be fine?

I know for sure 1 drive failed tho. the smart data for it is not happy.
