Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Been thinking about archery again. Bow prices have either held or gone down because everyone is buying up guns and ammo right now.

Plus you can re-use arrows. Its very fun. Get a cheaper compound bow and release then see how you like it. You can do tons of stuff to them, most of what I am familiar with is probably outdated. I haven't bothered since the early 2000s.

So I thought I should write an update with the 9-3.

My ECU decided to go on the fritz since last Monday!

I guess doing some research this is becoming a common problem in second gen 9-3s with the ECUs failing due to where they're placed on the engine. They're really easy to get to but that comes at the cost of longevity. Lots of heat in the area they're in which over time bricks the ECU.

When I bought code reader and plugged it in I found out I had two codes: P0411 and P0606. In the context of my car P0606 means the PCM is on the way out and the behavior confirms that.

Any ideas for a fun car for around $10-15k USD? I get the feeling it's a shitty time to be looking for a new car, but I've been driving an older Audi for the last few years and getting real tired of dealing with the combination of 20-year-old-car problems and German car problems. I was looking at the BMW 335xi at first, but then I thought about it and I don't really want to deal with German cars anymore... I want a car with a decent amount of space in it so I've been thinking about the third gen Impreza WRX hatchback or maybe a third gen Ford Focus ST hatchback. Thoughts? Any suggestions or cars to definitely avoid (other than German cars haha)?

This is your casual reminder that somehow GM has managed to consistently make stock sound systems that have no right to do what they do. Base model bankruptcy-era GM Buick go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Probably wasn't the best idea to do this last night on a sketchy battery without running the car but it'll be fiiiiiiiiiine.

Better fix that dowel pin of death before you do anything else, pretty sure that's still a problem on those.

Mine is a 2001 so I fortunately don't have to worry about that, that's only an issue on the 12v cummins engines I believe.

Yeah, it was amusing driving home the other day and having my rearview mirror be completely useless since I had it turned up to overcome the noise of having the windows down.

Now if only I had a competent head unit with say, CarPlay, instead of having to rely on one CD I burned with 19 songs. 🤔

Another GM 3.6 fail.

I need a car lift. So naturally I gotta do it in the most ridiculous way possible.

Should I read a bunch of business books, buy a local mechanic shop, make sure it’s running as an efficient business with a good vision, people, and processes in place, and get to use one of the lifts for my own stuffs at certain times for basically no cost/makes me money?

or is do you think the future is too dim for local shops?

Not for the next 20 years. New cars are getting too expensive. More people are gonna just repair their cars over buying new ones.

Problem for private shops is the overhead of having to deal with every make and model. Once these late 10s cars with all the radar, bsi, camera systems that need to be aimed start getting cheaper private shops wont be able to deal with those systems. Just for honda you have I think 7 different setups for aiming equipment.
