Wccftech: Ampere allegedly launching on March 26-29th (GA104)

Guest

https://wccftech.com/rumor-nvidia-gtx-2080-2070-ampere-cards-launch-march-gtc-2018/

"NVIDIA is reportedly readying a brand new lineup of GeForce GTX graphics cards based on its upcoming 12nm Ampere graphics architecture for an official debut at this year’s GTC in late March, a mere month away from today."

I know it's a Wccftech topic, but at least parts of it seem legit. At least the launch date seems quite sensible.

Why would NVIDIA make their xx70 and xx80 cards based on a XX102 chip? Aren't those reserved for the Titan and xx80 Ti lines? Regardless, this is coming from WccfTech, which means that within a margin of error almost everything in that article is false / should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.

Lappy: i7 8750H | GTX 1060 Max Q | 16Gb 2666Mhz RAM | 256Gb SSD | 1TB HDD | 1080p IPS panel @60Hz | Dell G5

It's fine in the article, just made a mistake in the title. (I fixed it) Thanks for the comment!

When wccf says that, it comes down to "Nvidia is giving us something later this year"

Hey @Konrad Kwasniewski,

Your post doesn't meet the Tech News and reviews guidelines. Please add a quote from the source article, and an opinion of your own. Then mention me @Energycore and I'll move the thread back.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Computer having a hard time powering on? Troubleshoot it with this guide. (Currently looking for suggestions to update it into the context of <current year> and make it its own thread)

Take a look at other TnR posts, some people make really nice OPs that are well made.

We've gotten the rumor that the mid-range line is in the XX104 chip a few times so far. This actually makes sense, given the GV100 has Tensor Cores. Those are all but worthless for gaming, so Nvidia has zero reason to waste die space on them for consumer-grade cards. There'll likely be GV100, GV102 for the professional space, and Gx104, Gx106, Gx108 and so on for the consumer space.

With the Tensor Cores, Nvidia is going to have to make larger design branches of their uArchs, which could be reflected in the numbering. However, we still get the persistent note that "Ampere" likely isn't the uArch's name.

It's going to be called Turing, not Ampere.

Gamers Nexus confirmed this in a recent video when he(the main host, whatever his name is) spoke of talking with vendors about a new product.

He had said something like "no Turing test needed for that..." when speaking about new GPU's. and later mentioned that "he left a hint in a video"

so it's blatantly obvious...

Why would they release ampere if pascal is already selling out and likely has much better yields?
