Intel KabyLake G with VEGA M Graphics

NumLock21

A video has emerged on Youtube showing what looks like Intel's upcoming cpu, the Core i7 8709G. based on the KabyLake G architecture. The cpu is a quad core with hyperthread running at 3.1GHz and has a turbo of 3.8 or 3.9GHz. What's unique about this cpu is, it comes with Radeon VEGA M graphics with HBM2 memory.

Quote

Radeon RX Vega M (694C:C0) graphics core with 4 GB of HBM2 memory across a 1024-bit memory bus; with its GPU engine running at 1.19 GHz, and memory at 800 MHz (204.8 GB/s memory bandwidth); although the core-config of the iGPU remains a mystery. We recommend you maximize the video below for legible details.

Might be useful for HTPCs. I imagine you can't just slap one onto a LGA1151 motherboard?

Look at the shape, weird rectangle looking thing.

Like your original comment for HTPCs and NUCs. Since it's BGA and not LGA.

Might even make it's way to laptops who knows.

This is for the NUCs and some Apple SKUs. TDP is 75w or 100w, I believe.

Mobile solution for sure, Intel can't give a decent iGPU to costumers so went to knock on AMD's door, this is priceless... a shame Intel Iris Pro never took off it has a great name for marketing

It's not a mobile solution though.

See the RAM sticks in the picture?  Mobile boards have theirs laying flat with with the board.

That's not a laptop chip though . We know the size of hbm2 modules , so we can estimate that vega die i around 300mm² ... that's not really the size mobile gpus are . And vega isn't efficient enough to fit the TDP requirements at that size.

It's probably a development or SFF board. It doesn't mean it's not meant for mobile.

It is a development board not the final product, for what is worth that IS LAPTOP MEMORY

Didn't even know that thing existed, but further giving it a look I don't see how not to agree, most solid guess.

However, the motherboard does follow the micro-STX specification. If it does, well, I know what motherboard I'm getting next.

vega is very efficient  when its not at a high clock. 56 and 64 are running at near max clock out of the box.

I'd like to argue that they actually can make something decent if not great, but they rather chose to have the bare minimum igpus. Just look at Iris Pro, at the time it was released it was quite great for an igpu, in most things(from what I can find) it pretty much tied with amds best igpu at the time. I'm sure that if they tried, they could easily tie with AMD

It will take off again. This is an interim arrangement. Intel has the engineering capability, but trying to get access to all the necessary patents to get started is a huge endeavour. It seems they've finally bitten that bullet with the announcement of their discrete graphics division headed by Raja Koduri.
