Need a MB that will fit a 4090

Hello All,

First-time poster here.

So here's the deal, I need an MB that a 3-slot GPU will not interfere with the second PCIE slot.

I have a 4090 that I use to make money on, I have an AMD RX 580 that I am currently using to gaming on (While I save up to buy a better one for gaming) and not interfere with the 4090 money-making potential.

My X570 gigabyte gaming x MB PCIE slots are not far enough apart for me to have both GPUs setup without a riser and I can't have the RX 580 card on the riser on the second PCIE slot as the 4090 is too thick 😄

So I currently have my 4090 hanging outside the case (With zip ties) on the riser that's on the first PCIE slot, and a 580 that's connected to the second PCIE slot. Id like to be able to close my case again o.O

So I need a MB recommendation that can accommodate a 3.5 or 4-slot GPU between the PCIE slots. Thats around £200

You tend to run into another problem with boards that can handle this, enough space between the bottom slot and the case to allow airflow into that second GPU.  Plus its obstructing airflow into the first one.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Yeah, that's really why I need 4 slot spacing between the PCIE slots. So it can breathe. I have the Corsair 7000D airflow case. So is roomie.

Why do you have this card at all? Likely the main problem.

It would be far easier cheaper to have a second computer just for the mining.

Having 2 rigs instead of 1 would at base mean more power draw in total, over a single case. Due to it powering an extra MB, RAM, M.2, and all the rest.

It's similar to mining, I get money for AI-related stuff. I can earn $7+ a day from it. But gaming while doing this can get me kicked from the job I'm on and put back onto the waiting list.

I'd still like to be able to game with my clan while not interfering with the earning potential. But the way I have it right now means the 4090 is hanging out the case. So if there is a X570 MB that has a 4 slow wide PCIE slot, then I can put the 4090 on slot 1, the RX 580 (Or a 4000s card when I have the money for it) in slot 2 and close my case up again.

A 4090 strictly for $7 a day? I'm totally lost as to the whole setup here.

You don't think thats a lot or?

Lets say you bought that 4090 for $1800 US. That's going to take you in the neighborhood of 8 months or so just to pay off the card, all the while forgetting the power bill costs of having it sucking back power to "make money". You could just have not bought the card at all and you'd be making more money.

Sure, in a year you've paid for the card and added a couple hundred to your wallet?  Well, before paying heating bills, electricity, etc.

But you're not enjoying the card at all.  Buying a 4090 to rent out... it really depends your income streams and if $200 or so is worth  it over a year.  For me, no.

Or are you holding on to the coins?

My 1080Ti in 2018 was $729, I mined on off hours (sleep, work) WHILE using the amazing card for every day gaming.  Garnered 1/7th of a bitcoin with mining in a year.  I still hold that BT, so that is definitely worth it.  But more importantly, it was a bonus since I was using the card and enjoying it.

I wouldn't drive a Civic while renting my Ferrari out.

It's not mining, so no Bitcoin and all bills are included in my rent. Up to a set amount per month, and while on the cheaper jobs, it can suck away a ton of power. Once you get to the AI jobs, the power draw is quite minimal.

Plus add the $7 to another way I can earn money with my PC, I'm currently earning about $10 a day

And as I said, I plan to get a better card (Maybe a 4078/4080) for gaming.
