Overwatch really isnt that violent

Hey I am trying to get my parents to allow me to get Overwatch but it is "too violent" and "first person shooters desensitize you to violence and you will become a mass murderer" That is ridiculous but I understand why they think that. The instant my parents think of FPS they think of games like CS:GO, GTA5, Assassin creed and Call of duty which I think are terrible games(too violent and realistic and just a bad example for everyone). They think that it is too violent for my younger brother. i have played a lot of paintball, 50 hours of Tanki(dont judge) watched a few rated R movies and countless PG-13 movies(BTW the ESRB rating for Overwatch is teen and the Common sense media rating is 13+)Can I just get a thread of people to convince my parents that it is fine

 

P.S I did show them the Common sense media page for Overwatch, my mom shut down when it said it was a FPS

I love how my parents never really cared one bit about it and when i had my friends over home they all wanted to try out GTA 2 on my PSX back in the day

They're not going to listen to us. We're just strangers on the internet and they will see this as a confirmation bias. I will say the "violent video games will make you violent" has been severely debunked. Studies have proven that they will do the opposite or have no effect. It's just something the media has latched onto to find some sort of scapegoat to blame the shootings. These kids were fucked up before they began to play these games.

This, very much this. It doesn't matter what we say. I say you just wait till you can get your own games with your own money and just play whatever you want. It's much more satisfying that way anyway.

Uh, well, there's nothing you can really do then, if you can't convince your parents then nobody else will.

Maybe just act mature and grow up faster to demonstrate to them that you're responsible enough to know that you don't do those violent things irl?

And yea I would try to demonstrate responsibility and independence while respecting their presence and things they have done for you.

In theory all games featuring adults as characters are violent. Just think of NHL for example. Just a peaceful hockey game where you hit opponents from behind until someone is triggered and punches back.

lol. I don't play overwatch, but I've seen all the shorts (oh... them shorts are perfection.) and watched some gameplay. It's basically about as violent as arcade games at the local bowling alley (well, less violent than some of them). It's basically run around and shoot everything in a mad frenzy, but there's not blood or anything. It's even less violent than paintball, since people can bleed or get welts from that.

The gameplay isn't overly violent, but some of the character bios are fairly messed up, especially Widowmaker's.
