What Free Computer parts have you gotten?

I figure I'd make a thread asking people about parts or even systems they got for free. Cool stuff, really nice stuff or just odd stuff.

Examples for me would be things like my brother handing me a Geforce 4 ti4200 (A year old card at the time) because he thought he'd killed it.

Another would be the time my dad got 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix 512MB DDR3200 from a Crucial Rep and because his computer couldn't run them I got them instead.

I grew up with my dad as a Computer Store Sales Manager so often old computer parts or even full systems would be left at the store by customers upgrading.

So how about you all? What sort of nice free second hand or even new stuff have you gotten for your computers?

I got a whole ass COMPUTER for free courtesy of my cousin. It had originally a Q6600 and an 8600GT with a 240GB sata drive, but since then, i've swapped the 8600 for a GT610 (not much better tbh) and a 2TB Seagate drive bc 240GB was sorely lacking.

Haha, I gave it to my father in law. Retired his 460. It was garbage, and was causing artifacts. My buddy replaced his 970 with a 1070, and gave me all his old gear. Unfortunately, he still had the stock heatsink. So as of now, I'm two cases short of being able to build 3 more PCs, all AMD based. Phenom 1055t, FX 6350, FX8350.

Right now I'm using the brandless keyboard and 16' AOC monitor from my dad's old office computer. Not much, but helped me get a 1050ti instead of an rx 550

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

I got a free laptop because it didn't turn on. The laptop has some haswell i5 i think and a GTX 750. Now the laptop boots again but the HDD has to be replaced, the battery is dead, and so is the HDMI port. The trackpad and one of the USB 2.0 ports sometimes doesn't work properly.

I got a free GTX 1080 when I bought the box.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Got a 7970Ghz for free, from a friend because it "didn't work" in his PC for whatever reason. He didn't want to bother going through the RMA process and his basic troubleshooting didn't give any result, so he gave it to me, so I could check it myself, RMA it and then keep it.

So obviously the first thing I did was testing it and worked without any real issue right away, only problem was a fan that was faulty which I was able to replace easily. Friend was baffled, but since he had given it to me and it didn't work for him, that was that and it's been working hard in my PC since then.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

I got a GTX 780 Reference card from a friend that upgraded to a 1080 SLI,

An old computer from my grandfather, runs an Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 1x256Mb + 1x512Mb DDR/DDR2 memory(probably DDR), 1x120Gb IDE drive, 1x240Gb SATA1 drive, some old power supply and motherboard.

A dead Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 motherboard from a friend

A Pentium 4 from a computer literally found at the side at the road, unknown memory stick(also from that computer)

Another old computer from my dad, runs an AMD Sempron of some kind, 512Mb DDR memory(gave that to a friend), scrapped the motherboard, gave the PSU to my uncle, and my brother has the case.

My mom's old laptop that didn't work properly, AMD Turion 64 I believe, 4Gb DDR2 SO-DIMMs, and no clue what happened to the hard drive. It had some form of Nvidia dGPU, not sure what model.

Most notably: Quadro 410. A very much budget GPU I got from a relative, who got it from his internship. It was a cool upgrade for my old PC..

Oh and I guess I got my previous for free I guess. From my parents for a couple birthdays.
