Can't fix ignorance?  Are you this rude to everyone, or did I somehow offend you just because I'm unhappy with Amazon?

I was fine with paying, I wasn't fine with paying for a full year.  The introduction page at that time mentioned monthly and annual pricing.  Nowhere did it give me the option of choosing which, and I was never contacted before the trial period ended.  However, that was only the beginning of the saga.

I refuse to use third party solutions to a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place.

Their service mentions downloading to supported devices.  Turns out, a Windows PC isn't considered a supported device by Amazon.  There's currently a 46 page (and growing) topic on Amazons "Customer discussions" forum.  I'm not the only one ticked off at Amazon about this.

I've never had an issue and they've been fantastic for replacing broken items. I had a $155 car radio that failed and no questions or proof asked for they prime shipped me a brand new one (which i got within 48 hours) and gave me a shipping label to return the broken one back within 30 days.

wow, that's interesting and unfortunate :(

I can't say I've had the same issues at all.  I have experienced some irritations, like the lightning sales are rather anti-consumer imo, and the DRM on prime video can be quite finicky at times which is really annoying, but all in all I like the service.

In general, I think this is a reasonable philosophy.

I think I know why this is.  It's the same reason you can cache Google Play Music songs offline on android but not on a desktop.  They want to only download to locked down devices they can be reasonably sure the user has no control over.  Since a PC is all about giving the user complete control, it's conceivable you could steal the cached files.  Now, obviously the real solution to this is good encryption (what Spotify does) rather than locking down software, but many companies seem to be too stupid to understand this.

I never said that. Off course you should fight back. But things can pretty much always be settled/resolves before going to court.

Also lawyer and court expenses are not the only financial expenses in situations like this. Sadly I know from experience.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Can't say I've ever been what you've been through. I've avoided using Amazon whenever possible. Tried Prime's trial awhile back, nothing worth my time that wasn't already on another service that offered more content on top of that.

That must be new, that wasn't a thing when I used it.  That seems like a huge flaw, I can't believe they aren't aware that people can sign up for a streaming service, download their entire catalogue for free, and then use those files anywhere with no DRM... it's too insane to believe.

I've been using it for years.

Because Play Music isn't a streaming service first. It's a marketplace and music player, much like iTunes, Groove Music, or Zune.

I stream zero music. Zilch. Nada.

And Google even offers a "guide" on how to download it to PC in their browser player.

Music Manager is a utility to upload your songs to your Play collection and download your collection. It's not exactly widely advertised, but they provide a link to it in the downloading music subsection of the help menu.

No I think your case is unique because you don't read things before you buy. If you would of read the TOS you would of see that you will be charged $100 for Prime in 30 days after you sign up and there is no monthly payment option. You also would of seen that there is no download option on the show bought. Amazon is a monopoly on online ordering, virtually everyone uses them. I buy around 150-200 items a year from them and have had 0 issues with anything, including refunds.

Seems like OP didn't actually read, or has never used a subscription service before. I've never been part of a service that will re-contact you prior to your trial period ending. They specifically warn you ahead of time that you have x amount of days to cancel or you will be billed. You chose not to heed that warning and have no right to be upset about it. Pro-tip: you can cancel immediately after signing up for the trial and still use the service.

As for the Amazon Video piece, each title lists the "Purchase Rights" and how to download:

Quote

"When you buy a video, your viewing rights don’t expire, except as detailed in the Terms of Use. You can Watch Now or Download the video to a compatible device.

If you choose Watch Now, the video will instantly stream to your computer and you may later stream it on another compatible device. If you choose Download, you can download the video to two locations. This enables you to watch the video without an Internet connection. You can also transfer a downloaded video to two portable devices.

Some new release movies become unavailable for downloading for a limited time due to licensing restrictions. If applicable, we will notify you about this before processing your order.

Additional restrictions may apply. For more information, go to the Terms of Use."

All that being said, the only thing you can't download it to is your computer. You can download and watch it on practically anything else.

Ultimately, Prime has been well worth the subscription over the two years I've had it and I've had no problems, and that's just for Canada. It'd be an even better deal in the US with a lot more options and selection.

Which I don't blame them, it is amazingly easy to find guides to get around DRM from online ebooks and music.  Though, I find it funny they think an android is safe from such work arounds.

I think a monthly option may be regional.  I can't find anything about a monthly option for Amazon Canada, but it's easy to find information for it in the US.

There's people who actually pay for Prime? I've signed to a free 30 days prime trial a few times by now (they keep offering it even after I cancel so... who am I to judge) and never paid a cent for it.

Then again, I also don't shop on Amazon every day. (make that like, once or twice a year) So that could be why.

So, you're mad because you left things to the last minute?

Even if the option to pay monthly was there, why would you wait for someone to suggest it instead of being preemptive and asking? Are you sure the monthly fee wasn't based on you canceling the year long subscription? I seem to recall that you can cancel the subscription at any time, and they'll refund you the amount that you didn't use.

As for the download issue, it's clearly outlined on their site. That's more of an issue with you not reading up on everything, and assuming that it'll be the way you want. Yes, there's a 40something page thread about it, but in the grand scheme of things that's a very, very small percentage of Amazon users.

Wait wat? $79CAD per year for prime? its something like £79 per year here I'm pretty sure :/

Import taxes, the fact they have to ship products there, etc etc. Loads of reasons it's more expensive.

I don't think that's what he meat. For example, I currently make about $30/hr. If I was to lose $40 to a shop, for some reason, I'd absolutely try and get it back through all easy channels. However, taking time off work, and investing in court? Absolutely not. It's not worth my time. I'd simply chalk it up as a life lesson and never do business with them again. Thus, they'd still be punished to a degree. Now as a student, you might see your time value as a different figure.

I shop online so much and have it shipped to the post office next to my office that the staff there know me by name and when they see me walk in the front door they immediately walk to the back to look for packages for me. >_>

Since I live over 2 hours away from the nearest electronic store, I do a lot of online shopping.

I have had the least issues with Amazon.

My only real issue was that I was refunded for a lost item, USPS was very helpful with finding the package.

After the package was found, I contacted Amazon saying that the package was found, and that I would like to be re-charged for the item.

Long story short, it was an incredibly difficult process, for some reason, my bank was denying the charge, even though I had the adequate amount of money in my account.

Women on the phone: "Sir, if you want to keep the item you are going to have to pay for it."

Me: "I"M TRYING!!!"

The shipping aspect alone makes Prime very worthwhile (to say nothing of something like Prime Video). I use Amazon quite a lot, and use their subscribe and save for a bunch of essentials and it really helps cut down on shopping trips.
