AMD killing Crossfire branding in favor of ...mGPU..not to be confused with mobile GPUs

A new branding for crossfire has microstuttered its way into our systems.

We’ve accordingly moved away from using the CrossFire tag for multi-GPU gaming.”

Anyway becasue multi GPU works different in DX12, technically it's not so much on AMD to make it work in each game, they want to distance themselves I assume....

I was just thinking this. 

And before anyone says shit, like why  would you ever do that, I used to run 2 6970ms in a laptop that was ~16 pounds with the charger IIRC

I see that AMD's marketing is as good as ever. Also, Crossfire is purely a marketing term while SLI is an actual technique with multi-GPU configs.

This also officially kills any chances off multi-GPU engines being made since most "AAA" developers care more for the bottom line than they do making the best they can make.

I worry a lot less on enthusiast niche hardware support like xfire and more about overall polish and gameplay. Kill multi-GPU support may suck for us, but if it means better optimization for single GPUs (Or just overall at that point) then its for the best

We'll see how far engine devs go with multi-GPUs.  I don't expect they'll work on it much, but engine side is the only place to implement it now without wasting gobs of devs time on each game, reinventing the wheel every time.

For game engines like Unreal I'm sure it'll be inbuilt and fairly usable, much more so than getting crossfire to work anyway.
