Apple iPhone 10 (x) and another post I see on fb

People do realize that Geekbench is optimized for Arm processors right? For those of you who don't know Arm processors only accept a fraction of the instructions that an x86 chip can, so Geekbench is basically trying to eat apple sauce with a fork when it comes to the i5.

NOP

that's all apple optimization in the work. intel wished they had such granular control over windows

For anyone interested comparing Apple to Intel read this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9766/the-apple-ipad-pro-review

Apple chips are definitely competitive with Intel at similar TDP.

TDP is not a good datum to compare CPU's.  In fact it's not even a good metric for most things enthusiasts do.

It doesn't matter if it's not comparable to any X86 CPU, it's still miles ahead of any android CPU.

so if they aren't good across different architectures, then does that mean that the same are good?

Like the chips in the mars rovers are almost exactly the same as the one in the wii u

Geekbench on a mars rover?

I don't suppose we'll see Android CPUs catch up, will we, what with Android being optimized for many weaker cores, and no one wanting to make a big core CPU for Android?

what's an android CPU?
never even knew they existed, as most android devices use a Qualcomm, Mediatek, or Samsung SoC.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

Depends on if we see a Tegra for mobile again. The DenverV2 cores are pretty comparable with Apple's cores, just scaling between the two extremes rather than Big.little.

If we see a cut down version of Xavier (or even Parker) come to mobile chipsets, it could be a freaking beast.

There is that, but also Android would need to be capable of taking advantage of such wide cores.

Well either that's true and this news isn't, or this news is true and Apple is massively better than Intel at the same TDP (or you know, neither is true :P)

Because they're comparing a phone which must be a few W at most to a CPU that can be anywhere from 9 - 15 W

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Denial probably.

I'm not aware of the inner workings of Geekbench, so I'm not in the position to argue over it's validity as a cross-platform benchmark between x86 and ARM, or even Android vs Windows vs iOS vs Mac.

Oh come on, I said it is dumb, not that he is dumb. I didn't correct Austin because I hadn't seen the video (no offence to the guy but it's been a while since I've been subbed to him, I just find his videos not very interesting and unfortunately even LTT videos are starting to enter that category for me personally), but you're free to do that yourself :P

Lord and saviour Linus Torvalds has got a few things to say about that.

Well, if we assume what Linus T. says is correct, then Apple's choices in hardware would make some more sense. Apple prides itself on having very quick response times, which when opening an app, requires loading from the storage. iOS by default is encrypted (another feature Apple is proud of), so having the NVME storage and some very fast decryption capabilities would help deliver the responsiveness Apple seeks.

Of course, this is pure speculation. Feel free to disregard it.
