Retailer confirms October 5 date for 6-core Coffee Lake processors

A German site has posted a screenshot of a stock-order, via Reddit - it's a slightly torturous chain of evidence, but it looks legit - that shows a likely launch date of October 5 for Intel's six-core Coffee Lake processors.

What we're looking at is the Core i7 8700K and 8700, both with six cores, 12 threads, and a 12MB L3 cache. The 8700K has a base clock of 3.7GHz, and a single-core/multi-core boost of 4.7GHz and 4.3GHz respectively, and a TDP of 95 Watts.

The 8700, on the other hand, clocks in at 3.2GHZ base, 4.6GHz/4.3GHz boosted, and with a 65 Watt TDP.

:feelsbadman: I am a sellout, I am waiting for the I9 8th generation chip with hyperthreading and hopefully overclocking, Or I might wait for the new gen GPU's since Volta is coming out 2080 ti soon(TM)

Have a 6850k running at 4.7. Unless these also clock to that or better, I'll probably stick. Don't need 40 pcie lanes anymore, but its nice having 6 cores that run hella fast.

Bit too late there, Intel. GF got my 6700k and your 7700k was a lazy AF update with mayo under the IHS lol

That's not Coffee Lake. 8th generation processors are just updated Kaby Lakes. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/08/intel-first-8th-generation-processors-are-just-updated-7th-generation-chips/

I've seen that yea, But "Coffer lake" and "Kaby" Are code names before they get the actual names such as I7 5660 XE etc,

In reality, 0%, because there is no IPC boost coming with Coffee Lake. It's Skylake 3.0.

I predict an increase in ryzen sales on the 6th oct.

There won't be any IPC improvement . It's basically a 6 core kaby lake.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

True enough.  There hasn't been any major innovations from Intel on the CPU side since Haswell.

If the 8600k is a 6/6 chip they'll be little reason to buy the 8700k at 6/12. Cores matter more but if you need more cores and less IPC then the 1700 still runs away at 8/16.

For gamers 6/6 at very high clocks should be enough with no noticeable difference with the 8700k.

Which all have core structures not dissimilar from the 386. So I guess you could say they are packages with tiny hopped up 386s in them.

No. Mini Haswell.

Because mocking and devaluing Broadwell+ is fun.

I know, I'm old school and think it's funny that the underlying structure hasn't really changed, as when they tried (pentium 4) they failed and went back.

To be fair, Netburst was fine for specific applications (where path prediction wouldn't be an issue), just horrible for general computing and gaming (especially gaming).

I know, but most people don't understand that. I will give them this though, at least they were attempting to try something new. It is what brought us their first form of SMT. Who knows, maybe they'll hit their dream of 10ghz. That's a long pipe dream though....
