I know, but most people don't understand that. I will give them this though, at least they were attempting to try something new it is what brought us their first form of SMT. Who knows, maybe they'll hit their dream of 10ghz. That's a long pipe dream though....

If the 8600k is a 6/6 chip they'll be little reason to buy the 8700k at 6/12. Cores matter more but if you need more cores and less IPC then the 1700 still runs away at 8/16.

For gamers 6/6 at very high clocks should be enough with no noticeable difference with the 8700k.

The i3 8350k will be more than most gamers will need with 4 cores and 4 threads. This is what most of us running now and it's still gaming king and possibly will be for years to come. I can't imagine upgrading from my 6700k with in the next few years.

I'm not sure if the 8600k with 6 cores would be faster at anything than an new i3 range.

Unless Intel gimp there new i3 range somehow.

Buts it's looking very good for budget builds on both sides.

Imagine a locked i3 8300 on a budget MB with 4 cores 4 threads for  less than $250.

*Budget gaming king

We're already seeing Core i5s bottlenecking cards like the 1070. To the point where a slightly lower clocked i7 of the same generation produces better results.

And games only stand to get more demanding as time goes on.

Yes and no.

No because we're starting to see some games that take advantage of more than 4 threads. BF1, Wildlands, etc. It's not that important today but you can get better minimums with more than 4 threads.

But at the same time, Yes because most gamers actually end up playing with a 1060 or lower henceforth they are more likely to either be balanced with 4/4 or run into GPU limits first so it doesn't really matters.

So most gamers, that is most people on sensible budgets of 600 or less for the entire rig, will battle it out with Ryzen 3 vs Coffee i3. That will come down to what's gonna be the cheapest i3 and even then I expect AMD to just slash down the 1200 and 1300x prices further down.

But for middle range and up 6/6 cores will make a noticeable difference for gamers looking to do 1080p high refresh rate which is a rather popular kind of build nowadays.

Pfft.

There is no scenario where Intel isn't the Italian mob, Russian mob, and the Yukuza steamrolled into one scary mob.

Perhaps they just tock all the time because the godfather is a huge airhead.

Essentially a price drop for more cores, maybe better iGPU, while being on the same architecture of Skylake.

Tell me again why a new socket is needed?

New pinout that is supposedly more efficient.

Which means one of 3 things:

LGA1151 cannot sufficiently support 6 core parts with its pinout.

The typical 2 chips to a socket change is something Intel wants to maintain.

LGA1151v2 really is more efficient at the socket level.

My money is on the first one.
