Top Tier RX Vega card rumored to be more expensive then the GTX 1080TI

With RX Vega right around the corner, Sweclockers.com reports that the top end card is going to be quite pricy:

Translation:

Theis information derives from the distibuters, who in turn got their prices from AMD and the boardpartners. This dosent mean the prices are accurate with the launch prices however. NVIDIA often give out inflated price tags for first numbers, as to not reveal the final priceing.

 

 

I find this to be quite an interesting turn, not compleatly unexpeced seeing as the top end card is expeced to have an AIO cooler but definatly not a good value card if this is the actiual pricetag. i just hope that the air cooled versions will be cheaper and that waterblocks will come soon so i could consider Vega for my current PC.

 

I looked around but didnt find anyone else reporting on this, please tell me if its a retoast. wouldent be the first time

I was certain that this hardware needed to be on the market months ago. This is confirming my fears that Vega will be a failure. Atleast Raven Ridge integrated graphics will give Vega a market to shine at.

atleast the top end card will if the preformance we have seen is from the top end card. its just going to be an overpriced, super powerhungry and hard to cool 1080 basically

If this is true, I would guess its the fault of AMD's obsession with using HBM2 for their high end cards, despite its minimal improvements for gaming and terrible yields (thus high prices)

i call bs on that... amd is not stupid to price a 1080 level card that high... or they might be hiding something....

This would make more sense since thats what they have continued to do with the past 2 generations. Also how would a single GPU card be the same price as the frontier edition, the RX will be the same GPU just with 8GB of HBM. so it should be cheaper

a dual chip card is something that might happen, but the powerdraw of that card alone would be more then my PSU could currently handle if it was the only thing in my computer lol.

they were right with the Ryzen prices for both R7 and R5 if i recall correctly so i wouldent rule them compleatly out

To be fair I never had any interest invested in Vega aside from their integrated graphics for notebooks and barebones. >200 USD cards are just a waste of money IMO. I can wait for 4K to reach the mainstream. When the time comes to replace my RX 460 I might jump ship to Volta since a GTX 1050 is already more power efficient by ~10-15%. My biggest concern is giving up the Radeon control panel, Relive, Freesync and other software-side things I've grown accustomed to. You clearly have experience with the experience nVIDIA offers so what would you tell someone with my concerns?

Yes but what's performance like in DX12 titles and Vulkan. If a 480 gains 30 FPS from simply going to Vulkan imagine what a 1080 level Vega gains. My money is on AMD for the future if Volta is a Pascal refresh.

NVidia offers what AMD does and vice versa. NVidia has Shadowplay which is very simple to use (just one click of a button) and it's light on resources. NVidia recently (about a year) updated GeForce Experience to v3.0 and it's a HUGE improvement over 2.0. It contains 1 click game optimizations, driver updates & Shadowplay amongst other things. It's very fluid and easy to navigate. Unfortunately, the NVidia Control Panel is still the same old CP of old. It needs updating and hopefully they'll work on that soon. It gets the job done though.

 

Now FreeSync and G-Sync are essentially the same. The huge difference is, cost. To me it's not a big deal since I'll keep my monitor until 4K 144Hz becomes standard. The upfront cost is high, but if you keep monitors for multiple years, it'll be worth it. Typically G-Sync has a wider Hz range than FreeSync. Mine covers 30-165Hz and was one of the more "affordable" G-Sync monitors at $500.

 

If you're into overclocking, I'd suggest MSI Afterburner for all your OC needs. It comes bundled with Riva Tuner which can display your FPS on screen. EVGA Precision X & NZXT CAM are others though I don't have any experience with those.

 

And don't forget Day 1 Drivers for all new game releases. It's such a great thing to have is drivers ready to go.

I'd bet a 3-4 die Vega gpu running at around 1000mhz so that the it's actually somewhat reasonable in terms of efficiency

Rx 480 at 1303Mhz stock voltage: 118W

Rx 480 at 800Mhz (61% clock) stock voltage:  65W(55% consumption)

The card will have a built-in power plant generating its own power from nuclear fusion, like a star. It's why they call it 'Vega'.

inb4 400W of TDP. Nvidia has the TDP crown for a very very long time now. RX VEGA has been DOA since it's development. If AMD actually have done any development... It seems like it's just a FURY X chip that has been well binned.

what if all this has been the biggest troll ever and the blind test in budapest + 3d mark leaks  was the low end sku of vega agenst the 1080.... and the high end is actually going to cost this much  and  has much better performance

If top-tier Vega costs as much as a 1080 Ti, then I would expect it to perform similar to a 1080 Ti.

 

The ~1080 performance scores we've seen could then be for a lower tier Vega card.

 

Or, the pricing rumour could be wrong.

 

AMD doesn't have the leader brand status that Nvidia has, so they'd have to price similar performance GPU's beneath Nvidia's offerings to be competitive. I don't think that AMD doesn't understand this. So, I think that either Vega has more powerful offerings than the ~1080 scoring card, or the pricing rumour is off.
