Haha I tried my 6p. There is a small jelly effect but it's really small. Like not enough that I care.

honestly this is such a non issue for me. wow a small visual glitch when something moves fast from the bottom of the screen to the top, this will really affect how well i can use my phone /s. its not like its going to influence consuming content in any way as far as i know.

You do get what you pay for with OnePlus, they have always been reliable to me unlike another brands 800€ flagships.

Maybe the OnePlus 5 is the start of their downfall, but the 3T and OnePlus 1 were all great devices.

I'm a happy Oneplus 3 owner. Just avoid their uneven years.

Oneplus 1 - 2014 - Great

Oneplus 2/X - 2015 - Awful

Oneplus 3/3T - 2016 - Great

Oneplus 5 - 2017 - Awful?

it's because AMOLED uses pulse width modulation to control brightness and it applies voltage to part of the screen which runs like a stripe from top to bottom repetitively, this can also happen to an LCD display.

Most modern LCDs use DC to control the backlight so it won't have the 'scan lines' you see on AMOLED. Cheaper or older LCDs, sure. So I don't see something like an iPhone 7 having this jelly effect unless it's not the combination of PWM + inverted display causing it.

8 hours ago, nerdslayer1 said:

it might be, you might not be able to notice or it might not be as prevalent on your device. FYI AMOLED panels refreshing from bottom to top, they screwed up the connector, so.......

stupid evidence, they ruin everything

stupid one plus lying about how all phones are affected, as i stated READ the article before commenting on it.  https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/29/15894850/oneplus-5-screen-jelly-scrolling-statement

I think it's kinda like Samsung users. Half will say it doesn't lag and most of them will say that simply because they can't see it or don't know what to look for. So I don't think it's necessarily malicious or straight up denial. However, what is clear that the other half can see and the right equipment can measure it so ultimately it's not up to debate whether it's there or not. What's debatable is whether it's a problem or not. In both cases I'd say: yes it's a problem.

The Pixel is like paying for an iPhone but you arent getting any of the cool stuff that an iPhone has......

For me, it's about android and not having to deal with bloatware on my phone and actually getting software updates on time.

I understand why some like iPhones, but the customizability on android wins me over. On iPhones you can't customize the bunch of settings in the notification shade. On iPhones you can't use custom launchers. On iPhones you can't stick an app anywhere you want, you can't have multiple copies of the same app on your home screen, and EVERYTHING has to be on the home screen, you can't just stuff stuff you rarely use in an app drawer. On iOS you can't download apps online, and the downloading stuff is way harder. On android you can set default apps.

Don't get me wrong, iOS is a great os, it's just that it's not the right os for my phone.

The reason I'd choose a Pixel over a different smartphone mainly is bloatware and software updates. I don't want to have to deal with extra stuff on the os that I don't need, and I also can't stand waiting for new software updates. I pretty much waited over 7 months for Marshmallow on my OnePlus 2 (which I wanted, mainly because of doze), and now it's been around 9 months since nougat came out and I still don't see nougat anywhere (which I also want, mainly for split screen reasons as well as the notification changes). If someone else comes out with a phone that isn't too bloated, has good software updates, and is pretty good though I might consider it (htc comes to mind, I believe they promise software updates for 2 years within 90 days of them being released).

You can, just not to the same degree as you can on Android

True, but when you look at most people they don't run custom launchers anyway, and Imo custom launchers are rather silly tbh.

Very valid, although I do not understand the appeal of putting apps anywhere, I tried using "anchor" when I was jailbroken which allowed me to put apps wherever and it felt like I had to fight the device in order to move apps from page to page since a gap is present.

I think Apple knows that and thats why they don't want to add it. I think this is a case of Apples infinite Wisdom, and I agree with them.

No you can, just side load the app. As long as its a legit developer you are good to go.

I bought a Oneplus 5 on release, the sim tray did not lign up with the side of the phone and i got a replacement. Tested both phones for the jelly effect and i could not see it and still cant. So far i am pretty damn happy with the phone, its about 300$ cheaper than other flagship phones like the S8 and U11.

Only problem i have had so far is a loud screeching sound that suddently happens mid call, after the person im talking to cant hear me anymore and they fall in and out on my end. Could be the phone or could be the provider, still not sure.

If it doesn't happen with other phones or didn't happen before you got the OnePlus, then it's not the provider.

Oh man I remember trying Ubuntu 9 for the first time and thinking that "Jelly" was so cool.
But its cool factor quickly died after a few minutes.

But man I know for a fact I would notice this 'Jelly effect', and get super annoyed about it. It reminds me a bit of the "bowing" that some 'flat screen' CRTs had, and how much it annoyed me in side scrolling videogames.
I am kinda surprised though that screens actually do have a proper orientation. I would not have expected that.
