Spoiler: It's Actually A Decent Update

fdgsgas.PNG

Recently I posted a thread about Sean Murray Captain Dunce giving a talk at GDC. Right now, it seems like he may be on a path to redemption with the gaming community since No Man's Sky was such a hyped game.

This update introduces a lot of visual updates, quality of life changes, and more.

Quote

INTRODUCING PATH FINDER (UPDATE 1.2)

The Path Finder update introduces planetary vehicles, base sharing, PS4 Pro support, ship/weapon specialisation, permadeath mode, and much more. It shows the path for the future.

So I'm not going to post every single thing, but I will go over the things that were bothering me a lot, aside from the obviously left out features that were promised.

So the lighting system got an overhaul. Now there's a way better ambient occlusion option, and you can see here the difference it makes.

Normal/HBAO Off:

New/HBAO On:

hdssdfhg.PNG

For the rest of the visual updates:

Quote
  • High and ultra resolution textures
  • More accurate Ambient Lighting
  • Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion
  • High contrast lighting effects
  • Crepuscular Rays from the Sun
  • Improved post-processing with several filter options
  • HDR mode for compatible monitors and televisions

GG so far. This peaked my interest in the update as I thought it was just going to be some fluff to get people to pay attention to the game again. It seems like they're actually putting decent work into it.

Again, there's a lot to this update and you should go to the original link up top to see all of them.

Here are the final ones that I want to point out:

Quote
  • It is now possible to skip the ‘Journey Milestone’ black bars, and these have been reduced or removed in many areas.
  • NPC interaction text now appears faster, and can now be skipped.
  • The option to return to ‘Game Mode Select’ has been added, allowing players to quickly change game mode
  • A Mission Log has been added to allow players to track multiple objectives
  • The user interface has been made easier to read in many places, and background graphics have been added
  • Atmospheric low-flight has been adjusted and improved
  • Ships, weapons, vehicles, freighters and bases can now all be renamed.
  • Long-clicks have been removed in many menus places to allow for faster interface navigation

These changes alone make the update imo. This shit was just so annoying previously - if you played the game then you know how dumb this was.

So before commenting I, again, suggest you read the whole update. It has peaked my interest and I was one of the ones taking a dump on Hello Games - will be from here on out since they launched the game unfinished, but y'know.

This actually looks kind of cool. If NMS gets discounted a bit I might just give it a chance.

Really debating on buying this now for PC. They seem to be putting in good work with even more to come. I am mad at how the game was released but you gotta at least respect them a little bit for not running away from it. They are fixing it.

Honestly, sean murray can go talk a long walk off a short pier.

It's one thing to release a game unfinished and try to patch features in.

It's another thing entirely to imply these features are in the game and working, while on television or in news articles or with misleading trailers, then refuse refunds to angry customers, go silent for like 6 months and then finally patch things in.

If they had actually allowed refunds I would have been willing to give them another chance but Sean Murray and Hello Games are dead to me, even if they magically patch every missing or misleading feature they advertised.

Oh yea, plus the game was delayed twice on ps4 and 3 times on PC iirc, they had no excuse.

Fuck No Man's Lie. I've got Space Engineers instead. And it had vehicle crafting well over a year ago.

Edit: Looking at everything in NML after this update-all it would need is larger star systems (or more of them in the 1 zone (?)) and NPC+more creatures. And it would have a lot of what was promised in NML.

I'm sure I'll check it out at some point down the road. This and the last update were pretty dang cool, but Mass Effect is out in less then 2 weeks. Gonna go dark for awhile with that.

I bought the game at launch, but never returned it... Played maybe 7 hours and stopped.

Picked it up after the 1.2 update, and wow. It's actually really addictive. More story would be appreciated though.

My only question:

Can you see other players?

It says you share your base but I think it just means you share it on a different instance: we had players who managed to meet themselves before and could not see each other there was no online interactivity elements at all.

Though if that isn't the case and you can interact with other players now it might finally be worth a shit.

Almost 3k players on Steam because of this, 30 day average is less than 500... I imagine it'll be less than 500 again pretty quick. Still less dead than Battleborn so they have that going for them

I'll give it a chance when it gets a deep discount. I'd still feel kind of bad about giving them my money though.

Still no multiplayer. I doubt they're going to implement it like originally talked about, but it could happen I guess.

I'll give it about tree fiddy!

(That's how much I paid for GTA 4 back then and is my benchmark for a good deal for a game I'm not really that interested in)

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I didn't believe you at first so I checked.... and you're right. LMAO

Sure glad borderlands 3 was put on the back burner for that game :P

Don't ever buy the game. Never reward the garbage release and the way they handled it.

They have servers that save your progress and track discoveries for others to see, and thats about all of the game's online capability. I doubt it was developed with multiplayer interaction in mind. So to add that it would mean a change in game code too extensive to be worth it. Also a lot more back end required to host or at least match players.

They could do some more simple P2P stuff for people in close proximity and not have to host everything themselves.
