New MacBook Pro outsold every competing laptop in just five days – Slice Intelligence

CNET: Apple MacBook Pro sales already set to surpass 2015 MacBook

Slice Intelligence: https://intelligence.slice.com/apples-macbook-pro-launch/

My thoughts on the new MacBook Pro hasn't changed. It's an overpriced laptop with underwhelming specifications for its target audience but it kept the money flowing for Apple because their laptops have something no other Windows laptops can come close.

1. Great Battery Life

With the few exceptions like the new Dell XPS 13 and the new Surface Book i7, Windows laptops can't match MacBook battery life. More often than not, you have to pay more for a extra premium Windows laptop just to get close to what Apple had for years.

2. Great Industrial Build

Again with a few exceptions, Apple is good when it comes to build quality. If you put a MacBook Pro beside a Dell XPS 15 and test which one can be opened with a single finger, it will be the MacBook. MacBooks are known for their rigidity whereas a lot of Windows laptops are known for their flimsiness because of cheap materials like polycarbonate plastic.

3. Multi touch trackpad

I gotta say I was spoiled by Apple's multi touch trackpad. I haven't seen a Windows PC just yet to match Apple's multi touch trackpad and users like it.

4. Customer Care Service

Do other OEMs provide extended warranty coverage like AppleCare Protection Plan that provides global repair coverage and extended warranty up to three years?

5. Free from crapware

With a few exceptions, most OEMs will bundle trial software that will make the PC slow at startup and will pop annoying messages upon boot saying "your Mcafee anti virus will expire in 30 days". No trial software is bundled with a Mac.

6. Great First party software

With a Windows PC, you have to buy Office 365 separately and it doesn't come with with video editor out of the box. With every Mac, it comes with iWork for free. GarageBand can teach you how to play instruments and iMovie is a great stepping stone for the more advanced Final Cut Pro X.

So that is probably why despite the lack of proper I/O and not so pro specifications, the MacBook Pro outsold all laptops.

... you sound like a massive fanboy/salsperson. no-one cares about arguments 1-6 as they have always been the case/typical apple cool aid. The only reason people by mac is 'because it is cool/trendy' or 'the OS is better' yet when asked how, typically reply with the first statement.

The data seems a little (read that as a shit tonne) off also, we know that the OS X market share is nowhere near 60% for this year, heck it still has a long way to hit 10%, and that's being kind and just looking at US markets (of which this also is).

looking at slice intelligence, it seems they filled their PR job posting they had on linkedin and that person is somewhat competent, everyone know's their name for the next 30mins, this is a non-story and quite frankly a waste of everyone's time.

tl;dr: Slice intelligence manipulated the statistics in such a way to sensationalise a story that doesn't exist so they can get some free publicity.

Seriously, who in their right mind would buy one?

Music and Video production guys that would rather a mobile workstation than a desktop.
OSX runs smoother than windows and has support for logic and final cut which are (to some people anyway) the best options for their use case.

I'm not defending the MBP, it is overpriced, IO is pitiful, Compatibility is horrid and that dual core POS in it should not be considered an I7 BUT for someone in the music industry there really is no other (mobile) option.

The base 13" isn't overpriced, and the rest just suffer from the OLED bar being new (and overpriced like a lot of first gen products), but the 15" isn't that bad once you consider it uses a Radeon Pro GPU. Compatibility isn't "horrid", most things do work or have some alternative solution. Blame Intel for making a hyper threaded dual core mobile i7 that's essentially identical to the i5s). It's a users CHOICE to pay the up-charge for the i7 over the i5, and most people won't pay it because it's stupid.

IF that's an actual issue. Rossman's video is the only case I've seen where that's an issue (I've used the new 2016 MBP and it didn't have that issue). One would assume there would be dozens/hundreds of posts by now if there was a serious problem.

And no, in the music industry Logic Pro is objectively THE BEST DAW for live performances and many other scenarios.

As I previously stated when asked who would buy one.

No. You don't have to get the i7 variant. If you choose to pay to upgrade to it (for no reason), then you would also CHOOSE to pay to upgrade to the i7 on the competition as well.

Is that US sales? It's also fun how today low power dual core CPUs are for many people a "desktop replacement" or their main working laptop. When the cores/GHz wars ended? :)

Lol. Consumerism at it's finest. Most people consume content rather than create it. Those who consume it may be fine with dual cores. But seriously, when I do any programming or use Unity, I really need a quad core. A dual core would be such a joke in many cases. And yet, I own a dual core laptop. That's because battery life is a thing and I mainly need it for taking notes and using office with the occasional VS work.

Good for you. The only people I ever see using Macs are people who absolutely have no need to buy a mac and buy it because it's a beautiful Apple product which happens to be a computer.

There seems to be a lot of people who don't quite get this.  There are people here who don't understand at all that some of us (the ones who are not iSheeps) choose to buy a MacBook because we want a portable computer that's our away-from-powerful-desktop tool.  And MacBooks are among the sleekest, thinnest, lightest laptops out there.  Were there any really thin ultraportables before the MacBook Air?  Some people here say go buy a Lenovo, Dell or HP workstation if you want a workstation... but a lot of those machines are thicker, heavier and defeats the purpose of buying a lightweight portable laptop.  Not to mention that those non-Apple workstations have just about the same capabilities as a MBP, and they out perform a MBP only when they're sitting on a desk at home/office connected to all the extra peripherals that are not portable.  For example, I don't see the point in buying a HP Zbook or Dell Precision workstation with a Quadro GPU when the screen on the laptop itself is not 10-bit with 100% AdobeRGB gamut.  If I want a machine with a Quadro GPU, I have my desktop connected to a true 10-bit monitor.  Not to mention those workstations themselves can cost almost as much as a MBP if not more.

And some people prefer using OSX over Windows, so until there are non-Apple laptops that can natively support OSX (I don't mean hackintoshs) the laptops from Apple are our only options.

I'm pretty much the same here.  Now if I ever need Windows when I'm away from my desktop, I either use VMs or take remote control of the desktop through my MBP.  I don't really see much point in buying Windows based laptops that are almost un-upgradeable if they're as thin as a MacBook and if they are upgradeable they are also usually bigger and heavier when I have a desktop that's custom built and easier to upgrade when more horsepower is needed.  The MBP is my portable workstation that lets me do some work away from the desktop.

I usually am in agreement with you on this matter but I must say that an Apple or a Lenovo are two different beasts and not because of the reasons you gave. For video editing, a MBP seems better but for cad work or ArcGIS, nothing beats the Lenovo. Ito not about the weight, it's about the work. If I have to do some data processing on the spot during a survey on a rainy day, the Lenovo is the right tool for the job.

Again, it depends on your use.

Now, for those saying the mbp is terrible value, it isn't. Personally I wouldn't  get on but not because I hate apple but because I have no use for it.

That graph is useless, in every single way.

You have one option if you want a 13 inch laptop with MacOS (technically two since the touchbar model is a bit different in specs also)

With windows you have a insane amount of laptops to choose between.

I also like how they only compare to four windows laptops.

This is just marketing 101, if you think this shows anything about the laptop marked, then you are a fool.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

I am actually not surprised. A lot of people where waiting for the new macbook since it's been a long time since it last got updated.
I am going to buy one, despite the issues I am having with it, because I have to. I think a lot of people are in the same boat.

Since windows is not an option and linux would to some extent but is just too much of a hassle and lacks the tools/apps I use for work. OSX is the only option, and hackintosh are out of the question as well since I cannot take any chances with it crashing. It needs to work all the time every time.

So yea.. not surprised and, like I said, don't think I am alone here.

Yep, they have been waiting for a update for a while now, so ofc there are going to be a lot of them that upgrades to the new one.

If I am 100% honest then I would rather have one of the older models, because extra ports and not as shallow keyboard.

Well WTF you might ask? Well I use Logic X most of the time and a mixture of Final Cut and Adobe Premiere.

On windows, the only alternative that comes close to Logic X (IMO) is ProTools (it is better than Logic X), and on the video side it is the Avid Media Composer. Adobe Premiere doesnt cut it alone to replace Avid Media Composer, but compared with Final Cut i come pretty close. 200$ and 300$ license vs 900$ and 1400$ licenses. i dont mind the 300$ that people say the Apples are overpriced (i need Adobe CC anyway for PS, Lighroom and Illustrator, so i don't accounted that ino the price, cause i would take that even with the Avid solutions).

You are basing your argument on the assumption FCP is equivalent to the Adobe combo. I could say I use Blender and pay 0$. The argument is flawed because they are not the same thing. That doesn't mean you can't get your work done with either of these tools, but don't act as if you were getting the same exact thing for less.

I think I said something along the lines of "it depends on what you want to do" in a previous comment and yes, an Apple computer is not meant to do every thing.  If people can't select the right machine they need for the applications they'll be running or the work they'll be doing, and then have a bad experience it's not the fault of the machine or the OS.

Frankly, I don't care what kind of laptop or computer people buy whether they like to buy an Apple machine or non-Apple.  I only hope they make a good decision in buying a machine that suits their requirements and can do it's job properly.   For example, not do something unreasonable like buying a cheap ultrabook intending it to use it to run multiple VMs at the same time.  Right tool that meets their needs (this is not always related to spec, it's also about ease and familiarity of use, comfort) for the job is what I'm talking about.

I also don't have problems with students, hipsters, what or whoever can afford to buy a MacBook or any other computer and do whatever they want with it, even if it's just buying something that costs several thousands of dollars only to sit in a cafe to check their emails.  It's their stupidity or unwise decision making skills, but it's also their money to spend however they see fit.

What I have problems with are people who generally bash something because they believe in stereotypes.  And while MacBooks may not have the best or latest hardware specs, for some of us who use them it's sufficient for what we do with it.  And yes, I do have a vain reason (besides what I already said about weight, portability, OSX's benefits, etc.) for buying a MBP instead of going for a Lenovo or Dell or HP workstation that can also handle the applications I run.  I like the clean sleek design of the unibody MacBook Pro, it doesn't come with any labels or stickers or any glossy or rubbery coating on it that could get scratched easily and show signs of wear and tear a few months down the line.  I like its neat and tidy look.

One thing I've learned from experience, appearance does matter a bit when you're meeting potential clients.  I don't want to go to a meeting with someone who may potentially hire me to work as a tog or DP looking like a homeless person with gear that looks like came from a junk yard sale.  It's not unreasonable to believe that we've outgrown our nature to judge people by looks, but they still do.  If I'm going to be hiring an assistant cameraman (or woman) to help me out on a job and they come carrying a GoPro as their camera I wouldn't hire them at all.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the 2017 Macbook was a Celeron with 2GB of RAM & an Intel HD4600 containing a single USB type c port, a 1000MaH battery and was being sold at $2000.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see it break sales records either. Apple lapdogs will continue to lap up everything they're told is good by Apple.

Heck I reckon if Cook shit in a box and sold it as the IMac Poo it would still break sales records.

This is exactly the kind of stereotyping and generic bashing I'm talking about.  People who make these kind of comments should look in the mirror before they start calling other people stupid.

Sorry, but could you maybe elaborate that,  curious to your reasoning or grounding of it. Right now it just looks like mindless shit throwing.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.
