Techtastic used Geekbench tests to show how powerful the A10X is compared to other Apple chips. These benchmark tests have been used to map out performance of all iOS products, and early on showed that an alleged iPhone 7 was more powerful than last year's iPad Pro, which has since been restated. The results show accelerated growth from chip to chip.

The A10X is given a multiprocessor score of 6,588, while the A9X gets 4,990. That's about a 28 percent difference. If these numbers are to be believed and the A10X shows up in an upcoming iPad Pro, it would far surpass the performance of the A9X powered original. This could make a big difference for users running work apps such as Microsoft Office for iOS.

While I don't think Apple is going to ditch Intel for their Macs, I think it's time for Intel to be worried. Who knows? Maybe deep down in Apple's R&D lab they have a MacBook Retina on an A series chop instead of the Intel Core M. I think Linus made a similar remark on his MacBook Retina 2015 review given how small the motherboard of the MacBook compared to a MacBook Air 11".

Yeah but who uses iPads besides old people, kids, and mentally disabled people? Honestly I don't see anyone else with them and I guarantee those people could care less about performance. You don't see business women in high heels walking around tapping all over their giant iPad pro, and if they are it is a surface or another power user device like a thinkpad all in one deal. How about apple updates their mac pros as they haven't in years now. Or how about the mac book pros are for pros still and they change their other lineup to not be garbage making everyone buy the pros. Who am I kidding it's Apple

I just use a tablet now... it's soooooooo much better being able to put an SD card in it and having 256 GBs+ of storage for less than an iPad. Plus I get unlimited data, 2 GBs of RAM, 8 core 1.2 GHz CPU, 15inch screen, etc.

#1 the iPads have had 2gb ram since the air 2. That's not to mention that iOS manages ram better so the iPad runs out of memory less easily.

#2 That 1.2 ghz octa core is weaker than the dual core 2.2 ghz CPU in the iPad Pro. Those are A53s probably, which are weak as crap and can't do much processing work. Apple has been winning in the SoC department for years now.

Tablets tend to use Android OS, which gives you MUCH more freedom.

Tablets use Google Play store, etc.
Tablets are able to become tied with Google programs like Google Drive, gmail. etc.

My iPad Air 2 was 500 dollars but I got it during Black Friday for 360 dollars.

 

While I'm not satisfied with the 16gb storage, everything else is perfect. The screen resolution is great and the color accuracy is on spot. Performance is great and I've never noticed anything lag or stutter at all. Everything is smooth. And unlike Android, I can get software updates for years to come and without delay (on essentially any android device besides nexus and pixel you often wait months for the next big software update to arrive to your phone).

 

Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate android. In fact, I have an Android phone. But Android tablets just aren't in the same league as iPads. Now, often android isn't even built to be used on tablets but more tuned for phones, and so the experience isn't as good. The build quality is usually below that of iPads, and the processor is generally weaker. Software updates are much worse. On a tablet I don't need the customizability I want on my phone, and so iOS is fine. The screen is superior to Android offerings and the battery life is quite decent as well. Right now, there just isn't any Android tablet that catches my attention, and so my next tablet will most likely be an iPad.

Apple finally buffing up the RAM to 2GB was 2 years too late IMO, but not because of their iOS platform. I don't think Apple anticipated the 3rd party apps needing as much RAM as they do now, and so 512MB and 1GB RAM was "good" at the time the iPad 3 and 4 came out. It is finally great to see an adequate amount of RAM being included so that multitasking is actually feasible on current gen iPad's.

Mine is a ZTE tablet, but beyond that I don't know. I can't find it anywhere on my tablet.

Eh I see some people at school with iPads, personally I'd consider getting an iPad Mini for when I don't want to lug around a laptop and don't need the power of the laptop but want something a little larger than my Galaxy S6.

 

Though I would be concerned about performance a little bit if I did get a tablet. 


I suppose the iGPUs on the Intel CPUs Apple uses in the MacBook Pros might be good enough to play World of Warcraft. That being said if Apple did drop Intel and potentially x86 all across that board I wonder what implications that could have for their program support and what would motivate programs currently on macOS to switch to x86 unless Apple had some sort of trick up their sleeve that allows some sort of interoperability or something between ARM and x86 or something. 

 

Because like if Apple dropped x86 all across the board for their custom SoCs fabricated by Samsung, I don't know if a developer like Blizzard would have any reason to make whatever games they support on macOS (like World of Warcraft) work on an ARM architecture.  Then again it wouldn't be hard for them to do because they're so large and they've already made games for devices running ARM CPUs.

I can live with an Android phone but for whatever reason, I find Android tablets to be meh. Unless Google can do something crazy and amazing with the rumored merging of Android and Chrome OS, no Android tablets for me. In reality, iOS is just a heavily redacted version of macOS (previously Mac OS X) that runs on ARM-based A series chip. It's possible that a Windows RT style macOS Sierra is in the works that will run on a MacBook Retina? Though I think applications like Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premiere will still run better on x86/64 processor like Intel.

I agree wholehardtedly. I personally prefer iOS, but I have no issues using Android phones (I had a Razr Maxx before I got a 5s), Android on a tablet is just such a miserable experience for some reason.
