To me, I don't see the point of overclocking my computer, I will upgrade the parts when needed. My computer suits my needs. How about yours ?

have my 5820K OC to 4.2GHz from its turbo mode 3.3, my gpu on the other hand just boost clocks its self to 1975MHz so i'm fine with that.

When i had my i5-760 had that thing from 2.8 GHz all the way to 4GHz, worth it.

None of my hardware is overclocked. I have put better cooling on my CPU and put extra case fans but that is all.

Yes and No.

If you consider Turbo Boost to be an overclock, then Yes. Otherwise, nope.

I tried manually setting up an overclock in the past to 4GHz, I was successful, got it stable and all. But the moment I put the side panel back on, the temperature would rise to 73˚C(using a corsair H70 in push/pull), which is essentially the limit for my CPU and then it throttled itself back to 1.2GHz to "protect itself"... In the end, with my overclock and the throttling, it had lower performances than Stock + Turboboost to 3.4GHz on all cores (up to 3.6GHz for single core applications)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

I was running an i5-2500k with a 100MHz OC, until I could be bothered to OC it further. That was the plan anyway. At that point, my PSU died. I have always put very mild OCs on my GPUs, including my GT610.

Main Gaming Rig:

Core i7-4770, Cryorig M9i Cooler, ASUS B85M GAMER, 8GB HyperX Fury Red 2x4GB 1866MHz, KFA2 GTX 970 Infin8 Black Edition "4GB", 1TB Seagate SSHD, 256GB Crucial m4 SSD, 60GB Corsair SSD for Kerbal and game servers, Thermaltake Core V21 Case, EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2.

Secondary PC:

Spoiler

i5-2500k OCed, Raijintek Themis, Intel Z77GA-70K, 8GB HyperX Genesis in grey, GTX 750 Ti, Gamemax Falcon case.

35% thats not bad.

I have my i7 920 at 4.2GHz, roughly 60% over stock if AIDA64 is correct :)

CPU yes, but only minor atm. I've got it at 4.0GHz 1.15V. I could do something like 4.2-4.3GHz and 1.27-1.3V but got no time for longer tweaking. And since CPU power isn't issue atm, I don't feel to need for going for more clocks. GPU is factory OC'd. I tried to bump it but wasn't getting anything minor, and wasn't really into voltage tweaking at that time. Its ancient anyway so I'll rather get new.

Noise maybe. But current Intel stock coolers aren't that bad either. Looks I don't personally care, no window.

He's got a 6600K and Z170 board. Novatech case so probably a prebuilt.

As long as you can have stability and sustainable temps why not.

The only thing technically overclocked is my video card.

I don't really feel a need to get more performance out of my parts if they perform to my needs. By the time I may want them to do something more, I'll just go and build another computer and sell the old one.

I don't have my i7-4790K in my desktop overclocked right now, although I have tested a few overclocks.  (The i3-6100 in my laptop is locked, but even when I replace it with a 7700K or maybe an 8700K I'm not likely to OC it due to thermal/power constraints.)

In testing with my 4790K (cooled by a CM Hyper 212 Evo on an ASRock Z97 Extreme6 board, in a Rosewill Thor V2 case) ...

Prime95 28.7 small FFT at stock - before cleaning dust out, would hit 100°C & throttle to 3.7 GHz.  After cleaning dust, was more like 91°C at stock speeds.  (Ambient temps around 27-30°C.)  Due to its tendency to really spike up the heat, though, I rarely use that version/setting of P95.  (P95 26.6 doesn't heat the CPU like that - I've heard it has something to do with AVX instructions.)  As for other tests...

Testing with the 3DMark FireStrike physics test looping...

At 1.25V, it would do 90 watts, 74°C, at 4.7 GHz, but when I tried for 4.8 GHz, it BSOD'd within 30 seconds.  (It still BSOD'd at 4.8 GHz & 1.275 volts.)

At 1.35V, it could do 4.8 GHz, at 85°C and 109 watts, but BSOD'd when I tried 4.9 GHz.

If I can get a better CPU cooler, I'd like to OC it by a similar percentage that people are typically able to overclock their Sandy-Bridge and Westmere/Nehalem (I forget which was the generation before Sandy Bridge, and after Core 2) CPUs.  I'm hoping either a 240mm rad (my case won't support a 280 or 360, although it does have holes to route tubing but I don't want to go that route), or a dual-tower air cooler would help me get a significant OC over what the 212 Evo allows, someday.  I don't plan on getting a new board for another 5-7 years, unless my current setup dies early.  If I'm not able to get well past 5 GHz (which is only a 14% OC over max stock boost clock), I'll know I failed.  If I can get 40-50% over boost clock (the percentage I see other CPUs, like the G3258, 2500K, etc. getting), I'd be happy.

if you have the cooling then why the hell not, its free preformance for just a little bit of your time

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
