OP is not confused, it's that the wording in the article can be a bit confusing if you don't read it very carefully. 

 

What has happened is that some group policies has been changed to say "this setting only applies to Enterprise, Education and server SKUs". What this means is that changing the settings will only have an effect if you use one of those versions. If you change the setting when using Windows 10 Pro then nothing will happen. 

 

In other words, the policies have been invalidated on Pro because they will now only have an effect if you use the server/enterprise/educational version. 

 

 

 

Looks like I'll either dig up my Educational license key and remote the annoying watermark, or just go back to Windows 7. Remember people, you were warned that this would happen. You were warned that Microsoft should not have the power to do things like this. This is precisely why I was against the forced updates. I think things will just get worse with each update from now on. 

Microsoft's end goal is an iOS-like walled garden for the desktop. The transformation will happen slowly though, with lots of steps like these.

Many smaller and medium sized businesses don't use Enterprise. They use Pro. We have over 150 PC's all using Pro, on several AD Domain Controllers, with GP being used all the time.

 

Sure, we currently don't use any of those affected Policies, but still, you're limiting what we can do - forcing us to upgrade to Enterprise I guess if we need those Policies?

i doubt that.

it will take a decade or more to make an OS as capable as windows or unix/linux.

building on top of linux would be the best, but people already do that.

I mean Apple are already like Apple and they sell more hardware than anybody else on the planet so why exactly is it OK for Apple to be like Apple but bad for MS to be like Apple? but if your running windows server, shouldn't the polices still be on the windows server and then applied to the windows 10 computer?

If this is directed at me then I strongly recommend you read my post again, because you clearly did not understand it.

1) I specifically said that Microsoft is trying to turn Windows into iOS. I did not say Microsoft want to become Apple. That's two very different things.

 

2) I dislike iOS a lot. It is the biggest reason why I do not want an iPhone.

 

3) Selling the most and being good/the best are different things. If you want an analogy, imagine if your favorite, 3 Michelin star restaurant all of a sudden decided to take a shit on their current menu and service, and instead became a copy of Mc Donald's. "Ohh but you're okay with Mc Donald's serving crap food but now when your favorite restaurant only sell fast food instead of gourmet food then you're all of a sudden mad!? Double standards!". A phone OS and a desktop OS can not be compared like that. They serve different purposes.

As @LAwLz has said, the policies literally won't do anything if pushed out to a Pro computer.

So to confirm the news. I did try on my side the Store GPOs, and all listed Group Policies related to the Store don't do anything on the latest fast ring Insider Build.

I am looking at the feedback app, and there is pretty much no one really reporting the issue. Now, the Store did get a massive overall, so seeing that these GPOs are still there in Windows 10 Pro, and not removed. It COULD possibly be a bug. OR, they only work IF Windows 10 Pro is joined to a domain (that, I cannot test).

 

Can anyone that has a domain system, test to see if Windows 10 Pro (Build 14393.5), once joined to it, those the GPOs work?

I can very easily set up a domain on my server and connect my 10 Pro computer to it. I'm not in front of my pc till tomorrow so if no one else has checked this by then I'll do it.
