So... there is a too cold for cpu cooling? Can the cpu pot make the ram too cold?

Yes. Even on dry ice with a good pot you will hit the cold bug where the system won't post. It's different for each CPU and architecture.

AMD FX for example has no bug and will boot at -270c helium.

Certain RAM like to run at specific temperatures for best performance.

Anyone know of the voltage limits of a Pentium 4 631, 65W TDP version?

Ok, I'll switch over to my laptop now and see how well my coolers+CX850M handle it then (it sucks only having 2 PSU, with 1 being 250W effective+having most of the power on the 3.3V and 5V rail).

My CPU is a Ryzen 1600@3.9GHz I wanted to clock more but I have to wait till Friday to buy my AIO.

I think these are good Cinebench scores, not sure though.

I won't be overclocking the P4 631. Turns out that the motherboard only works with the 250W PSU, and refuses to boot with the CX850M.

Edit: It only runs at 1.26V however, so when I do get a better PSU it should go very high at 2.1V.

Don't worry, I've only got to retest the Slot 1 CPU on my; Intel SE440BX-2 and 440LX motherboards (the Jetway has abysmal memory bandwidth, so raw clock speed is the only way to increase performance). As well as the S370 Celeron/Pentium III on; Apollo Pro 133, 440ZX and Apollo Pro 133A based motherboards. The Jetway board is only good for compatibility, in every other way it sucks compared to the others.

I will, once I get the boards sorted. Having Cinebench 2003 running under Windows ME through KernelEx is good, because I now have a plug and play HDD instead of having to re-install XP every single time I switch boards.

Here's my submission for now. 3.6ghz overclock, with no change to voltage and stuff. Only multiplier and BCLK. Haven't tried 3.7ghz but at 3.8 the system won't boot (probs need more voltage). I dare say this is pretty good for a $25 CPU. (I'l update the thread if I manage to get more).

Custom pinewood case, Corsair CX 600WRampage 3 Extreme, i7 980x (@4.2ghz) with ML240 Cooler MSI GTX 970, 24gb DDR3, 240gb OCZ Tr150 SSD + 2Tb Seagate Baracuda.

Advocate for used/older hardware. Also one of the resident petrol heads.

And this is my result from R7 1700 at 3,825GHz at 1,35V.

4,0GHz is a no go for my chip, but I'm still glad with performance it delivers.

I actually get better FPS in games at 1440p, compared to my old i7 4790k

For the most time yeah. Because it was overheating and I could OC it at all.

I did some testing with 4,7GHz on all cores when I put my PC outside for lower temps, but there wasn't any huge FPS increase from that either.

It's also true that I mostly play MMORPG like WoW, GW2, BDO and then some Overwatch, Smite ... so there really isn't any huge difference. Average FPS seems to be the same, but I see less of those FPS drops like on previous Intel.

But it could be also that right now I have only 1 weeks old windows installation, and on Intel it was 1,5 years of crap.

Yeah, having more than 4 cores really helps with frametimes :D

I'm still overall happy with my new CPU :) And hopefully new games that will come out, will rely on more cores rather than just few of them.
