I'm still overall happy with my new CPU :) And hopefully new games that will come out, will rely on more cores rather than just few of them.

Don't hold you breath while you're waiting.  Multi core support has been talked about for many many years.  We are moving in that direction, but your current CPU will be irrelevant before you truly see a decent amount of support for the cores that you currently have.

I'm going to be upgrading my 5960x to the newer Skylake X, but I still realize that it will be a completely underutilized system.

That's true, but right now I'm watching for Ashes of Creation that will be released in 2019. I will most likely have access to alpha and beta testing, and will see how well it can use my CPU and GPU. But they do promise, that AoC will be able to use more cores than any other MMORPG out there right now.

And if Zen+ or Zen 2 comes out at around same price, but can OC to 4,7GHz and even higher IPC than right now ... it would make a huge difference and single core performance as well.

I just wanted to have soldered CPU, so I don't have to bother with thermals anymore xD

Um.. you can't seem to beat my 5960x's 1968cb on water with an 8 core Ryzen. What makes you think a 16 core will break 4000cb. Lol

Only in the AMD world does math work like that. :)

Congrats man, but you missed the "on water" part of my statement so I made it a little easier for you to see this time.  Going sub zero like you did, I would definitely expect your score.  :D

But I didn't say I await 4000cb on water the first place.

Also my chip may not be able to beat your 5960x on water but there are plenty of chips out there that can.

I won't be buying a 16 cpu any time soon as it will cost too much, so me specifically getting 4000cb on a 16 core is very unlikely in the next year or so.

True, but in your world, sub zero is more regular.  In everyone else's (99.9% of other PC users) ambient is the excepted cooling method.  Normally, people mention the extreme conditions in which a remarkable score is achieved.  Just clearing it up for folks that don't know your mysterious ways.  xD

Interesting as I wasn't able to find one on HWBOT?

The only ones that were beating mine on water were using chilled water, so once again, that's not what I'm referring to.  Typical @Jumper118 comparing sub ambient to AMD to ambient Intel.  lol

Hell, after looking at this I realized that I better get off of my ass and get to work.  There are some other water cooled (AMBIENT) 5960x's beating mine.  I need to push the shit out of mine soon before I get rid of it.  :D

That is true however even the water guys can get a lot out of a cpu. It just depends if they want to limit themselves to that cooling. Most people would not bin for ambient, and most chips that scale better on Ln2 aren't the best on ambient.

Agreed.  Ambient chips often make shitty cold chips.

Umm.  We weren't debating status or whatever you're trying to show me.  You're starting to stray off on me.  lol

You can say limited to water 24/7 stable, stock, but it's just putting artificial  limits on things which don't really show the maximum performance of a cpu. Only the maximum you are willing to push it or are comfortable doing.

I would view ambient cooling as practical limits, not necessarily artificial.  In my case, I don't want to hear my computer at all while I use it as I do stuff other than benching.  If I had a water chiller or phase running next to me the entire time, I'd go mad.  Not to mention the fact that I doubt you use your phase 24/7.  It's not exactly practical.

I guess the real difference is, the scores I submit are done on a computer I used everyday for stuff mostly not related to benchmarking at all.  The scores that you submit are done an test benches with rigs that see no use outside of benchmarking and testing.  That's why I bin for ambient.  It's going to be used 24/7 in that manner so I want the best chip for those conditions.

I do see your point about "artificial limits" as some folks thing water cooling is extreme.  xD

Come to think of it, it looks like buildzoid and a few other guys have beat 1877cb on air with a 5960x.  It might be doable.  Maybe I'll get a good air cooler for it before I get rid of it and give it a spin.

I saw Dancop get 1912cb on a 1800x or 1700 at 4ghz but I don't know what cooling he used. His ram was crazy high speed though.

I will ask buildzoid about that 5960x score :D bet it was 89.5c all the time :P

Edit: he says it was a phanteks pctc14 pe which is the cooler that I use :) also voltage was 1.35v

There are much larger issues in the world such as the fact that @Jumper118 types like a 3 year old on a keyboard with missing keys.  xD
