I know I am quoting an old post, but I managed to get nearly to 5ghz at 1.4v on a sandy bridge 6 core i7.

Hello all,

 

I'm new to overclocking Z97 but wanted to ask some advice.  I'm having problems running stable past 4.6

 

Stable Build:  Stress tested to 8 hours and have been gaming with for a few days without issue.

4770k @ 4.6-1.45v

MSI Z97 MPower Max AC

Kingston HyperX Beast 2400 XMP 8GB

GTX 780 Classified (stock)

Custom closed loop Ek watercooler with  3x 120mm fan/radiator.  Still has some air bubbles (working on that)

 

havent delided CPU yet.  I'm seeing 72Cish on Core 1-3 and 66C on core 4

 

Cinebench CPU 907 points but stable at 1.4v5 on CPU core

 

*Cache is at 1.17v @ 41 (having issues with voltage and going to 42)

 

I'm thinking this is best I can get with this chip stable.  Lidded.  I want to delid using MSI delid guard, but do not have one.

Thoughts?

Ummm, that voltage is a bit dangerous for the CPU. For long term use never go above 1.35V, and have the CPU running at 1.2V if possible for the best guaranteed longevity. What's it like when running at the aforementioned 1.35V?

that voltage does seem a bit high for normal use tbh. the temps do sound very good though. 

 

Well the 5675C does appear to do 4.5GHz. I only had 10 minutes with it before I had to leave for college though :(

must have a good one then :)

i remember why i hate this board now.......... never blue screens always freezes, never reset after a back oc, have to clear the cmos and start over. :/

Since my second favourite old laptop had a T2600....and could only go to a T7600.....no you can't.

Not quite......I've found that laptops which use 65nm CPU do not like upgrading to those that are 45nm.

 

Edit: Also, look at the FSB, it needs to match.

Chipset and BIOS support. For me to run a P8600 it was on the Nvidia Chipset for the Core series at the time. I can properly upgrade both my CPU and upgrade and install 2 GPU's in SLI/Crossfire in my M17xR1
