Not quite......I've found that laptops which use 65nm CPU do not like upgrading to those that are 45nm.

 

It is possible to install PGA478 CPU's in PPGA 478 boards.

I might actually look at a P8600 if my Grand mother's lapotp (http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-CQ60-Notebook-PC-series/3944778/model/3979086/document/c01754909/) supports it. It is the last upgrade that it needs. (I maxed everything else out, so its lightyears ahead of her old Asus A3H with its Celeron M380).

Ummm, that voltage is a bit dangerous for the CPU. For long term use never go above 1.35V, and have the CPU running at 1.2V if possible for the best guaranteed longevity. What's it like when running at the aforementioned 1.35V?

After doing some reading, I bookshelved the 4.4+ (for now)

Seems like 4.3 only requires 1.285v for stabilty.  4.4 - 4.6 prefers 1.4v.  Diminishing returns and some grey area.

 

As for Chip I've had this chip thru Z87 phase, and never broke 4.1 stable with it.  (using Asus OC tools)

 

My I5 750 chip would clock up using the fsb mulitplier.  But I cannot seem to use this on Haswell.

Lynnfield I5 750 is running stable at 163 fsb x 21  (3.37) stable for a few years.

 

Thoughts?

I think you've gotten the low end of the Silicon Lottery with that 4770K. It really seems to be overclocking poorly. And if your trying to increase the FSP, with Haswell anything over 105MHz is brilliant-if it is stable that is. Ivybridge and Skylake don't have that as an issue so Haswell really isn't that good a platform for overclocking.

well i didn't use it for long (5mins or so) but it seemed fine to me. went all the way over 190mhz bclk, but that wasn't very stable

... well I bought another one that I'm getting tomorrow, except it's a Phenom laptop with 6Gb RAM that I got for £15 at college so I'd be daft to say no.

I'm picking up a MBP 2006 for $20, so I couldn't say no either.

that would be a good deal if it wasn't a mac.
