I'll overclock if I need to, right now none of the games I play can actually take advantage of the CPU because my GPU is holding me back.

thats disappointing. you might as well see how fast it will go on stock voltage or undervolt it then, otherwise its just degrading on autovoltage for no reason.

Its a good CPU its pricy as fuck. But make 100% that the BIOS on it will support that CPU before even thinking about dropping the money for it.

 

Would a Q9000 be a better buy? 2.0Ghz vs 2.53Ghz.

Since the Macbook Pro Bios isn't ment to do any overclocking I think it would be. But like I said MAKE SURE IT SUPPORTS THE CPU FIRST!

am not teasing  mostly just curious and trying to look at stuff for ideas.

 

I'd like to go 775 sometime for all the hwbot points maybe in the future after I finish upgrading my PC, not to mention CPU's for 775 are so cheap it would be fun to mess around with.

I want to get skylake and a 980 ti lightning or kingpin, but I may just get the Lightning or KP and stay on z97, haven't decided yet what I want to do.

 

 

Oh wow just looked at the product page, ddr3 support as high as 2000 mhz.  How good are the 775 IMC? Could it handle 2000 mhz CL6 or 7 or something like that?  Maybe @Jumper118 knows

the gigabyte high end boards are best, but the rampage is very consistent and all do 620-640 fsb on air. they are very hard to find and expensive though. whether you need one or not depends on what cpu's you want to run. if you have cpu's with a 10x multi or higher, then you can get away with any p45 board or even a p35 board in some cases. the main disadvantage with the x48 boards are the lack of xeon 771 modding compatibility.

ep45 extreme (DDR2) or ep45t extreme (DDR3). also the ep45 dq6 is good. 

 

then for asus there is the rampage extreme and the P5Q Premium

 

basically anything with a p45 or x48 chipset and massive copper heatsinks should be good.

Time to push a dangerous amount of voltage through my CPU for a screen shot that means nothing, BRB at 5ghz!

I know I am quoting an old post, but I managed to get nearly to 5ghz at 1.4v on a sandy bridge 6 core i7.

Board is a gimp. got about 1.4V from bios. AMD overdrive allowed me to select up to 1.55V but it topped out at around 1.475V in all reality. CPUz voltage not accurate, wish I could dump 1.6V+ into this scrapyard find.

I had a couple cpus to test . the 9850be and a 7550. they only work in my junker board

well i only have a single core athon and a 4400+ x2 that might not be the right socket, that i've never even tested. its seems i hvae a good board and rubbish cpu's and you have good cpu's and a rubbish board  :lol:

 

edit: as it turns out what i thought was a single core athlon is an athlon x2 5000+ and apparently it thinks its am3? 

quick go at 1.4v, will carry on tomorrow
