Least favorite thing about your school computers?

flibberdipper

So, let's face it. A lot of still have to deal with school computers (or have had to at some point). What is your least favorite part about them? The ones at my school aren't all that bad (other than the iMacs since they're slow AF), but I'm always worried about getting a virus on my SD card when I have to use it with them since these things have a lot of viruses at this point...

My school has a 1:1 program with MacBook Airs, but mine is bend in on the corners and the keyboard is gross and their attempts at trying to prevent us from installing things has caused a lot of things that we need for classes (like Math and Computer Science) to not work. It's crazy, and whats more, we might switch to Chromebooks next year, which will prevent our Android App, Java, Python, CS, and Math classes from using the applications they need! It's crazy what they've done and if they think any of this Chromebook nonsense will get past the parents, try again.

EDIT: Some of them use the old charger that was at an angle and terrific, and some use the new shitty flat and wide one, but it's not the same for all. The most pathetic part is these Airs have more VRAM than my dad's 27-inch iMac at home.

The computers we have at my business school aren't that bad.
They run on 3rd gen i3s.

We also have Cherry boards as keyboards, which are awesome to type on. (No, not with cherry MX switches)

They only thing that sucks are the monitors.

I actually genuinely didn't mind mine, sure it was no where as powerful as my desktop (It was a Dell netbook with a tiny AMD A2 in it) but it did what it needed to and it did it well enough.

the fact you had a fucking filter and it's so strict not even MUSIC STREAMING sites are allowed.

the monitors are complete garbage

only 2GB of ram

local group policy is so strict you couldn't even change the background if you wanted.

The struggle, what what we had last year in middle school and there was this retarded filtering extension called Securly that blocked websites we needed, but if you signed into your school account at home it'd install there too and you had to use anti-virus to take it off and keep it off.

HAHAHA. My friends are loading Ubuntu on theirs and reprogramming the GPS chips and restriction chips that the school put in xD. The school is constantly taking apps and functionality away (ie. incognito.)

To put into perspective -

the fastest non-engineering computers in my school have Core2 E8400's. Okay, not too bad. 4GB RAM can be dealt with. Thing is they're so horrendously bogged down with the constant network traffic to and from the servers that my laptop (i5 3230m) can push out 5x the processing HP the 8400's can. Per example, an average folding/nacl WU on the 8400's takes about 100-110 minutes to complete. I know the 8400's aren't that slow because hell, when we got them they booted so damn fast. Loaded in under 5 minutes. Now it takes a good 20 minutes before they show the login screen because of the damned networking.

thank god our school is on the state university network. thing is fast as a motherfucker

Lol a bunch of people tried to do that but the teachers would've seen but even if we booted into recovery it would wipe for some reason and so we had to bring it to the technology people who know less than us (like, c'mon get with the program) and they were all like "how did this happen" even though they damn knew what the fuck happened, like fuck you ms. monahan fuck a duck and take a walk.
