DICE's Alan Kertz Insults Console Users

Bloodyvalley

Some people say that his actions were unprofessional

But what is so unprofessional about the truth?

I can see why they would say that, but its nice that they are being frank and not sugar coating it, the facts are the facts

In hardware, consoles cannot match it. Software functionality is not the fault of the PC platform. It's the fault of software developers.

I know its the devs fault but no one wants to pay to be on a platform with crappy support. It's all tied together.

Stanzilla: "Can DX12 even the odds?"

I don't think so, its not going to be  able to reduce overhead enough to make up the margin.

Chris Thurrott: "and Devs will make their game to match the least powerful system so in the end who cares?

Its not that simple. If you can push more on another system for the same dev cost, you will. And PC is the gold standard still.

No amount of consumer trust can change that its just an inferior horse in the horsepower category.

But just like last gen, when enough exclusives pile up and the price drops it'll be a worthy purchase.

As I meant to say: Xbone will always be behind the PS4 this generation because it isn't as powerful. Stupid typo.

the PS3 was more difficult to get power out of, but it wasn't significantly less powerful. it took more investment.

^^Everything from the OP

Could someone copypaste what he said, because school internets

This. anyone? please?

Truth is the truth. He doesn't sound unprofessional at all and anyone who claims otherwise is just fanboying.

my thoughts exactly! how is it an insult when XB1 is the inferior console, beats me

It's not unprofessional, but rather he's just being bold. A small developer would put their business at risk by publicly calling Microsoft's console inferior, but Dice is big enough that Microsoft at worst would suck it up and take it.

He's also replying to the false notion that EA would develop games for the xbone and not utilize the extra power of the pc or ps4 if they can.

The truth is unprofessional now? Never heard anything more fucking cynical.

Indeed. Apparently lying to your customers, and then pissing them off as a result, doesn't lose profit at all.

I'd prefer they be open and honest with us. There's a reason I haven't played BF4 in a long while, mainly because it's just not fun anymore. It's become too much like CoD, and not like the Battlefield I once new.

They need to go back to maps like BFBC2, get rid of prone, and bring back some of the old weapons and tools. Fuck realism, I want fun lol

2014 was the worst year for broken stuff. 2015 has been good honestly and most devs have got the message.

There will always be outliers like Ark Survival and Arkham Knight which are loaded with gameworks and deoptimized but they are not the norm.

2014 was truely beyond comparison in its brokenness. I don't understand how heads didn't roll everywhere.

Because their broken shit still sold, making them money. Heads won't roll until a company doesn't turn a profit. Then, you watch how fast people get fired, and things change a bit.

But it's up to us, the consumer, to NOT GIVE THEM MONEY for said broken shit.

Unless you are amd lol shots fired.

But no I mean even in the context of ever single year before it and this year that was the most broken game cycle I had ever seen by far.

I mean this year for the most part self corrected it but still.

No, it wasn't unprofessional in the slightest. His comment was, compared to the actual PC Mustard Race, very civilized and honest. He did not say either is a bad choice and even said that after some time, the Xbox will become a very worthy purchase from the pile of exclusives, despite lacking in raw horsepower.

I'd say it's great honesty from the developers.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

It's going to keep getting worse. Companies will continue to try and abuse the customer for their own benefit, until they experience some grossly negative reaction as a result. Hopefully there will be another ET -type flop that crashes the industry, and makes the companies wake up and hire people who are more interested in making a good game, than they are in squeezing every little bit of profit possible out of the customer.

I know its the devs fault but no one wants to pay to be on a platform with crappy support. It's all tied together.

That's a false dichotomy. I'm not going to pretend that I don't understand the appeal of consoles, but if most of their customers were on PC, would they still be making crappy ports? There is also no excuse when there are lots of other devs who not only make excellent ports, but do it with less resources. You're making it sound like there is something about PC platform that makes it inherently harder to work with (don't even say fragmented hardware because like I already said there are plenty of devs who make excellent ports with less resources than big publishers)

The other issue is we gamers act like crack addicts and don't know how to properly boycott shit. I just saw GameSpot streaming AC Syndicate and there were so many bugs in the game, and yet there were people in the chat saying the game looks amazing. For some odd reason, the standard of quality in the mind of gamers has gone down with the release of these new consoles. Publishers are being rewarded for the shitty products they release on consoles, with some spill over on PC, so they see no reason to stop.

I understand the appeal of consoles, but PC is still the gold standard. No matter how much you wanted a certain game, if the devs and publishers have no given you a reason to give them your hard earned money, don't give it to them. They won't get the message if we buy the broken games we complain about.

and then there is Ubisoft titles... they have a separate spot reserved, just for themselves.

Most PC gamers cant play the latest games with more than lowest settings anyways, pretty much everyone of my friends who play on PC are totally happy if they get 30fps somehow on their screens native resolution, only a small amount of people who play games on a weekly basis actually do play it with ultra settings.

don't speak for everyone. generalizing like that isn't nice.

I built my friends PCs (6) all of which have i5's (2 have 4690k's) and 2 guys have R9 290's while the rest have GTX 960's (the 290's were used for a nice price)

I only know one guy that plays on his laptop.. and all he plays is Gmod & CSGO.

how is this unprofessional? what dis they want to hear?mayne something like this:

"Oh yes definitely DX12 will most positively plain out the field between the ps4 and xbox one, just not on this game. There is no plan in implementing dx12 on the current version of frostbite"

or this:

"although 720p sounds less impressive than 900p, we focused very hard to deliver a more refined experience on the xbox thanks to the extra free resources we had by not using 900p on it, trust me the artistic experience will be even better than the movies"
