Only thing I like about the Tesla is that the center panel is massive and fully digital

MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE.

 

This is totally unnecessary but holy crap is it cool. Like, it's a 2.5 ton 4 door sedan that can fit 5 people (or 7). It shouldn't be doing 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. Yet it does *mind blown*.

Dude, perfect way to mindfuck your friends. Invite them for a ride and drive like normal around town but when you get on the freeway turn on insane mode and watch your friends' reactions lolol

2.8 seconds is substantially faster than 3.1s

Good/bad tires can give -/+2 second on a lap. You will not feel the difference if you have no racing experience, plus it's pointless to argue about the milliseconds when it's already faster than 80% of manufactured cars.

No ones talking about lap times, but the pure acceleration difference between 2.8 and 3.1 is quite large.

The base model price drop also has me excited for the Model 3, and the cheaper battery upgrade is showing that Tesla's investments are starting to have a small effect.

Really, now they should aim to beat the fastest accelerating production car ever, the Bugatti Veyron at 2.5 sec

 

My bad, it's not the Bugatti Veyron. It's the Porsche 918 at 2.2 sec. That's actually blindingly fast. But this is about 70-80% cheaper, at only 90-100k.

 

I've been in a 918 and P1 doing hard launches. Your brain can't comprehend what the hell is going on at that kind of acceleration. Its truly madness. 

 

This actually makes the Model S illegal at some tracks now, under some of the rule. 10 second cars need slicks and roll cages. Of course no drag strip really cares since its a production car, but its just insane to think that these rules that were set in mind with full on drag cars are now being broken by production cars with obscene levels of power.

My bad, it's not the Bugatti Veyron. It's the Porsche 918 at 2.2 sec. That's actually blindingly fast. But this is about 70-80% cheaper, at only 90-100k.

Only if you can deliver it to the ground. Admittedly an electric motor has a better capability of doing that. Which is why big freight trains are diesel electric. A diesel generator powering electric motors, you can more accurately control that torque.

 

Still, electric cars will never sound as good as an old big block :P

I like how they do this via software update yet nobody attempted to hack in to car's ECU or something.

It would void the legendary warranty making the car basically worthless considering the price and it's not been proven to be reliable over the protected period
