How do you mean poor performance?  It performs about the same as a 980 to a 980Ti...  right where it fits in the price stack.

I want to think that NBM is on the right track. We just got to wait and see what will happen with HBM 2.0, since currently 4GB is the cap for HBM.

 

This is the reason why the 390x has 8GB vRAM, and where as the Fury X only has 4.

To be fair, they were advertising it as "Hunting Titan's", which it sort of does. Even if it doesn't slap it all over the face. Similar performance for a similar price. I am personally more excited to see the non-X version of the Fury.

you can't just make something awesome, it takes years of researching, Intel did it for some years and is leading now, if AMD researched all the time but didn't released a good product they mostly likely have some billions in debt and going bankrupt, there is a reason why Intel is big, it invested a lot of money into research, its a shame that they pulled of a microsoft like firing wave

id still say the fury X is a flop, its still slightly under performing the 980tis at the same price point but with absurd cooling measures...I mean...it would be fine for a customer to buy, but in terms of engineering its a flop imo if they are having to go to such extreme measures to be almost as good as a 980ti.

Also while I get it was a technical limitation confining your cream of the crop video card to 50% of the memory of your cards thats a step down....ya...

But it competes with it.  And considering its the FIRST driver release of this BRAN NEW architecture, they have TONS of headroom to improve in driver updates.

People always say this term 'new'. Yet when amd releases something that hasn't been around since the 460(2010) they get upset that is doesn't perform better than the 5 year old technology.

It's GCN 1.2, the same we saw in Tonga.

 

Although I do feel there are certainly driver improvements to be had that can give this card a competitive edge. I personally quite like the card I think it points to a good direction for things to come.

to be honest, the fury X is quite an amazing feat for amd, and its performance certainly ist bad.

I would actually consider that the Fury costs less because the only 980tis you can get the last time I checked at $650 are the reference ones with the aftermarket ones being quite a bit more. But idk, do people actually like to buy ref 980tis?

It's not abt rich or poor the I know people who genuinely opted amd instead of Intel for their build even though the could afford intel...I think the term your looking for is people with a budget who can spend that cash on gpu or ram instead
