This just came in at work today...

Our system is saying the price is 449 usd. In Stock date is 6/21, but that doesn't necessarily mean that is when it will be released.

On Newegg they offered GTA V for free with an R9 290/X for a short while, even with 8GB of free DDR3, though of course this was Newegg, not Best Buy.

Hm. 

 

I'm waiting to see what performance this gets. 8GB is "meh" when put on an already existing chip, unless somehow that card ends up being able to make use of all of it. 

I doubt the cards will perform any better at 1080p and 1440p but with the 8GB VRAM it will make GTX 980 a lot less attractive at 4k since the R9 290x is already almost the same performance at 4k as the GTX 980.

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

Because it will most likely be cheaper (or as cheap, since I don't think Best Buy's prices aren't great) and more powerful than the 290X? If the price is the correct pricing for it, then the previous leak was wrong and possibly other leaks... Then there is also the fact that there is nothing wrong with rebrands IF they have a nice price/performance ratio.

 

Either way, the only generation worth getting will be probably the next or after where HBM 2.0 is implemented. Why? Because it seems like HBM is around the corner and you're better off saving then buying graphics cards in consecutive years. If you have no money issue then just go for the best card whenever they come out.

Very interesting considering batman isn't even released yet and is a totally different genre of game.

Just pointing out one is an early access game whereas the other is a AAA game.

So much this.

Most of the R9 300 lineup are rebadges of the R9 200 series, which were mostly rebadges of the 7000 series.

 

I was excited for AMD to bring out a new line of cards with new tech that would give Nvidia a run for their money but this is rather disappointing.

I seriously want AMD to release something really good and exciting as we need some healthy competition in the graphics card market.

The R9 290X is some 10% slower than the GTX 980 on average and more memory won't do anything about that.
