off topic-- Turbo diesel questions

adamsjus1

Does anyone here own or have owned or know anything about the 7.3l turbo diesels? I am looking at getting a 1993 f250 with about 210k miles one it.

It looks great and its for a good price. I know a bit about them but i'm bored so I'm going to ask you people! WHo knows anything about them?

I don't know much about them, but my dad has an '00 Ford F-250 with a 7.3L PowerStroke turbo diesel. It's a powerful engine and if I remember correctly, it gives ~16-20 MPH on highway with a light load (luggage). However this is a year 2000 model, so I don't know how much a '93 model varies.

7.3L... that would be unbearable to support financially here. Taxes + diesel...

Here we try to use as less as we can, that's why I drive a 1.5L diesel renault megane.

The 7.3 is a great engine that they've been using forever. If maintained properly, they'll run forever. So I'd see how the previous owner treated and maintained it.

yeah I had a small heart attack, here's me worrying about a 4.4L and looking for a 3.0L version as an upgrade for my next car ><

here its $1.80 per litre, plus, everything else costs more too (and we have to have MOTs and all sorts unlike the US)

I assume you mean MPG (miles per gallon)? Most European diesels do about 50+ MPG. That's pretty terrible yo.

Man. Decent sized trucks don't use 7.3L engines.

It's 1.75USD in the UK. If America paid for petrol the same amount as Europeans, you would not drive a 15litre V90 as a daily commute car.

Diesel is specifically €0.66 per liter. (I converted everything for you and I assumed euros). How much is it in Belgium?

Hahahaha wow. Yeah, my 5.3l V8 has a 26 gallon tank and has to get filled weekly. Gas (pretrol) is about $4/gallon ($1.03/litre) here. So I wouldnt use my truck much.

210k is a lot, I wouldn't even look at  a car that had done like 90 or 100k, then again UK journeys are shorter and the cars are more highly tuned

I assume lazy US engines are more reliable

My truck has 235,000 miles and runs beautifully. Some semi's here go over a million and I plan to get to about 500,000 with my truck.

Flat engines yes, turbo's not so much if they're driven poorly. (like not not turnkeying immediatly when you stop driving, nervous foot-control).
