off topic-- Turbo diesel questions

adamsjus1

I assume you mean MPG (miles per gallon)? Most European diesels do about 50+ MPG. That's pretty terrible yo.

Well right now my current truck gets 15 so the diesel would get better gas. And the gas price is about $2.60 and diesel is about the same. (Surprising its usually more)

MURICA - If it dont scream n puke black smoke, it dont be a diesel.

The 7.3 is a great engine that they've been using forever. If maintained properly, they'll run forever. So I'd see how the previous owner treated and maintained it.

Yea I just don't know if I should go for it because some people let there diesels get to hot and that ruins everything. But I really want it. Its a 4x4 and my truck is only a 2x4 atm... My is a 4 speed manual with about 90k miles on it (1983) and this one is an extended cab so the seat goes back farther (I'm tall so this matters)

And I need the 8 foot bed on it which the diesel has and my current one has too.

Sounds like the diesel would be a good upgrade then. But what is the cost difference between what you can get from selling your truck and the cost of buying the diesel?

1,3 €/L, + emission tax...

That's a lot...

I have no clue how much I could get from my truck. But the guy who is selling the diesel is asking $3,500  I bought my current truck for about $1800

I would say if it is in decent shape and won't put you out financially, it sounds like a good upgrade for you.  I would say definitely try to get maintenance records or see if you can have a mechanic look over it.

Buy a car that is not 20 years old pretty simple.

What about car collectors? Or people with cars >20 years old?

I disagree, I got my 2007 Audi with 60k on it and its now about 83ka and losing money rapidly so I need to sell before its worth nothing

Different markets in different coutnries. 60k vs 90k is nothing here in the states.

Can't drive them into the center of the city or there are exceptions where you pay additional money and you can. That's about it. People should not have 20 year old cars. I myself would not drive anything older than 2001+.

But you can make that choice. There are people that can't afford newer cars.

Oh please lol. You can get a decent car that works for about 1500eur and is not 20 years old. If you can't muster up that much I don't think you should even have a car because you spend a lot more than that taking care of one.

You sound very stuck-up. Many people drive cheap cars so that they have a basic means of transportation. They let the oil sludge and the paint rot, but as long as it runs, it's all good. 1500eur/1680usd is a lot for someone that can barely cover rent.

That is exactly the situation eu is trying to avoid. Your trashy old cars that pollute even when standing still in a parking lot, not even taking into account the driving. Also old cars cause most of the crashes and most of the deaths.

Yeah, cause old cars can't get 40+mpg

Its only not Allowed in city centers. Most city centers are relatively low speeds. A 20 year old car won't kill you in a sub 30mph crash

It's how they try to prevent the old cars anyway. You can't just straight up ban them like that from the whole country people would riot, so they do it slowly.

Fuel efficiency can be good sure and emissions are measured anyway, they are getting strict with those too though.

Not yet, but it's likely going to happen.

its so stupid though. My sisters escort from 96 is 1.8l and gets 40mpg no matter what. Are you trying to tell me that pollution more then a brand new 4.6l-7.2l engine?

how about offer new catalytic converters for cars instead of blindly saying "old cars" are bad

no, big engine cars already pay more for insurance and pay more taxes and they pay pollution taxes in the city centers.

catalytic converters are not that expensive actually. if you buy the ones from official service centers they are extremely overpriced, but if you buy the part yourself and get someone to change it it's not that expensive. for example, my car's official one is 1000eur+ and non official one is 170ish.

Im not talking about the law, Im talking about common sense. Just because they pay more in taxes doesn't magically make them better for the world.

OP, go for it. keep in mind, the engine will be bulletproof, but suspension and other parts may need work/switched out. Old parts should be cheap though. plus it will be a beast and do anything you want.

It doesn't, but we can't ban expensive big engined cars because they are willing to pay more taxes for that. Money is always needed sadly.

Small old polluting cars can be banned/taxed more too though. Big old cars are the worst offenders still.
