off topic-- Turbo diesel questions

adamsjus1

It doesn't, but we can't ban expensive big engined cars because they are willing to pay more taxes for that. Money is always needed sadly.

Small old polluting cars can be banned/taxed more too though. Big old cars are the worst offenders still.

not all old cars are pulluting as much though.

and besides, atleast here in the us, its the small minority. everyone here drives leased SUVs.

So that is why we get taxed more for bigger engines mostly. 20 years old is pretty old lets be fair.

may I ask do you drive? I drive a 99 escort. that means its 16 years old. there is nothing wrong with it at all. I go between that and my dads 2012 focus, and 2003 e-150, 2006 expedition and 2014 edge.

and honestly Id be willing to bet besides the focus, its probably the most efficient car. I know it gets the second best fuel economy. and I know it only as 60K miles on it, and works absolutely fine. to hear that my car that sat for 6 months, and started right up, has airbags and seatbelts that gets 30mpg would be illegal in a few years? Id just walk away dumbfounded.

16, exactly. You still have 4 years to go, that's a fairly long time, 2 tests of vehicle safety to perform. I drive 2003 Renault Laguna, which I bought for 1800eur.

And your case is pretty rare, this well kept car is really rare thing. My car has 400000km+ on it and I think it's pretty normal for a 12 year old car. (don't know the exact number because it was obviously fiddled with)

Mines a texas car. so theres zero rust. zero accidents. zero dents, but the bumper does have some marks on the corners. and the clear coat peeled off the very top of the car

I got it for 1200$(1065 euro) a year ago. so Apparently the car market is very different here and there. Yeah it was a good deal, but it wasnt a crazy good deal, these cars just go for cheap.

my next 4 years will be on campus college, so id be suprised if I drive it anymore then just weekends. Im not sure how your cars are built, but over here 4 years is nothing for a car.

well. you drive it very little and that is rare. In europe cars drive 20-30 thousand KM per year so 4 years is pretty long. Even I drive my car about 15000km per year and I drive very little in comparison. Since your car is 16 years old and has 60000 miles on it it's barely been used by my standards.

I disagree, I got my 2007 Audi with 60k on it and its now about 83ka and losing money rapidly so I need to sell before its worth nothing

Well, it might lose its value but the engine stands as virtually new, if maintained properly.

Yeah, it must of just sat really before I bought it. Ill be driving it so little simply because college. If I lived at home it would be a 40 minute drive both ways.

I love driving. but most of my crusing takes place in a 2006 expedition. it has a 5.4 in it, but must be a tank where you live. over 6 feet wide, and 16 feet long. weighs 5,000lb:D

13mpg when your not on  it. I average 8 when I cruise with my friends. that has 150K miles on it though. so its clearly gotten more use

Does anyone here own or have owned or know anything about the 7.3l turbo diesels? I am looking at getting a 1993 f250 with about 210k miles one it.

It looks great and its for a good price. I know a bit about them but i'm bored so I'm going to ask you people! WHo knows anything about them?

those prior to 1997 are just not as desirable. they had IDI turbo systems

which were not really powerful.

the 7.3L prior to the powerstrokes of 1999 were fair. not really the best power

and/or economy. their drawback was exhaust. and if towing over 4000pounds,

the economy really suffered and made for a disappointing purchase.

those trucks needed the down-pipe replaced for a 3.0" (under 7500pound tow)

or 3.5" (over 7500pound tow). as to improving the power, BD Brake was good

deffo need monitoring (gauges).

my recommendation is to to find a 1997/1998 powerstroke or 1999/2001 to

surpass all the issues on the pre-powerstroke diesels.

Mine has roughly 380,000km on the clock and is the same age as yours, a 2003. While 4 years may be a little while, its not long enough to kill a vehicle that has already ran well for 12 years. Unless you have issues around or before the warranty goes out, then you should be able to drive it forever, given you have proper maintenence.

SO would you think getting a running 7.3l turbo from 1993 would be worth it for about $3500? Hold on let me get a link to it..... https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5011652044.html

Looks decent. Offer him 3k, though, because of the interior. I'd do it if I were you - you get a diesel and 4x4, which your current truck doesnt have.

Do you think I will ever find a good deal like this later? Because my parents say that I should just drive my truck for now and then like senior year get a better vehicle. Right now I am at the end of my Sophomore year in high school. And if I did what they said then I could replace my dying cpu and motherboards. And I would have a nother $1000 to spend when I graduate. And I could save money up to then. Even though I would love to get a vehicle to work on until the end of highschool.

Deals come and go. If the computer is worth more, get that. For me, I sold my rigs and am putting money into my truck so I'd get the truck.

Ignore the van, its an 03 Silverado Z71 with a 5.3l V8 with the LT trim (aka leather).

Thus far, I've thrown on a brush guard, winch, lights, tail light gaurds, and plastidipped the fading roof black.

This summer, I'll be getting Method NV 17" rims with BFG KO2 34" tires, AMP Reasearch steps, fox shox, and an MBRP cat back exhaust.

I paid $7k for it and I'll have thrown about $6k extra into it by the time I'm done. It has 235k miles and runs like a champ. I've only gotten it to 105mph though.

Wait, you are in high school? What are you wanting to do with such a big truck? A 4.9L inline six has a lot of torque for towing. Granted it is limited to the rear axle on your truck. I would probably put the money into a computer or save it for the future.

I personally really want a chevy colorado 4wd. Decent gas mileage, small/easy to drive, but still has a bed for moving stuff. Way easier to just toss a bike in the back and go mountain biking than mess with a bike rack. Plus they still look good with some trim work and a little bit of a lift. Don't get me wrong, I would like a nice f150 or chevy 1500, but the colorado just seems to be a better fit. I have no practical use for anything bigger and I have a small driveway and a 2 car garage soon to have four cars to deal with during the summer and my winter break.

Why? Because I am a big kid. And I want a truck to match it. I was told I will stop growing when I am 6' 7"  And I love the body style of the 9th gen fords (1992-1997) And I know that it could be a possibility so I dream about it. And yea the truck I have will do fine for what I will use it for. But I learned to work on diesels on my dad's 1999 f250 with a 7.3 turbo.

And I know that after highschool I am going to move back to idaho or somewhere in the montains. Hell I have family in alaska too.

And another reason why I want the truck is the same why I overclock EVERYTHING.... Because I WANT MORE POWER!!!!

Nice truck man

Got a chance to drive my friends silverado over the winter. Some similar stuff to yours, some different but it sure was fun to drive compared to my escape hybrid. I was kinda freaking out because the alternator was broken and he was drunk (why I was driving) blasting music through the trucks speakers. I had no idea what I was gonna do if he killed the battery.

If it werent for the damn 4 speed tranny, I'd be able to go faster.

I'd advise you looks for a diesel and 4x4 in the least. The truck you found is nice, but there are most likely more and better out there. CHECK FOR RUST though.

Yea my truck was a great find. Doesn't leak at all and will do what ever you tell it to. And low amonts of rust.. I mean you see for yourself

edit... It looks orange with the lighting but its all red. And yes the guy did do a patch job to "fix" the classic ford rust.

KBB has it showroom at $3800 and good at $3000 (for kc zip).

worth $3500?, i'd say no, $2800 would be top dollar for a quarter of a million

miles and a limited ran engine package.
