what's your weirdest computer idea?

4 way SLI with the best GPUs at the time and the beefiest CPU  at the time, copper pipes filled with mercury for liquid cooling. three pumps, all the reservoirs that could fit, and like 5 Rads. then stick the whole thing in a mineral oil bath inside a cube that circulates the oil. now that that cube and put it in a larger cube that is refrigerated.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

is it weird that I just want to have a modern PC instead of having to build one with hand-me-down used parts from a generation ago?

only new parts I've ever bought were a ATi 9600 XT more than 10 years ago, and a cheap-o case and PSU from Frys a year ago. eevveerrytthiingg else is hand-me-down or used off craigslist and not modern at all :(

nah man, that's normal. Save up, you'll get there. Props for bargain hunting tho.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

A 27 inch laptop with desktop parts and liquid cooling. If I had the money I could actually do it, but I don't.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Don't buy a GTX 980, it's overpriced! Buy 2 GTX 970s or 2 R9 290s intstead (the R9 290s would even be cheaper)

How do you make ask the motherboard's work together?

There's a "Daisy chain"type configuration that makes it possible. I think it's referred to as a beowulf cluster.

I once thought about making a 2-axis treadmill using surface full of trackpoints. Its actually not that hard and costs could be cut down substantially. (It would still cost too much and the math would be way too hard for me. 2+1D) Idea came from those balls that are used with VR and they are passive systems that wobble inevitable (jerk). Sensors beneath the surface couldnt differentiate between standing on toes and running so the accuracy is not that big deal, its there just to verify what camera sees. (And ofc resolution and accuracy are preferable, but the major advantage i came up was to eliminate gimbal lock. Like making it possible to apply Kalman filter.)

Other one i had was to make a quad copter that could fly even with a broken rotor. I got laughed out, but then this one German guy made one that did just that. "Youve never obviously flied one" Well, who has? Its always flown by wire.

BTW I need to add how i made my "calculations". I tried to escape from my wall..ess? (without walls) prison in my mind.

When the going gets weirdthe weird turn pro.

Okay, this Artemis thing sounds amazing. Do all the computers need to be plugged into the same router, or does wireless work? Also, how does it determine what computers are playing? I don't wanna drag my mom into the game...

EDIT: the car idea is PRETTY DAMN AMAZING too.

Artemis is indeed a cool game! So all the PC's will be individual units all connected to a network switch. So the you'd play together is just like how you'd start a game in a LAN party. Since they're all individual PCs people can opt out and play or do something else.
