i once got the mad idea(which im still willing to try) to custom WC a Imac, just for the fun of it and proving Imac's can be usefull afterall :P

I had the same idea , I suggested it to Linus when he was complaining about iMac overheating xP , I might do it one day when I can find a cheap iMac

the current list of dead cards is as follows 2 evga gtx 980ti acx 2.0 , 1 evga gtx 980 acx 2.0 1600mhz core 2100mhz ram golden chip card ... failed hardcore , 1 290x that caught fire , 1 hd 7950 .

A liquid cooled first gen celeron with a gtx 550 ti in the same loop, 32 gb ddr2 memory, 6 raid 0 1tb ssd's some 1200w psu all taped up to a motherboard box mounted to a wall with industrial fans blowing on it 24/7 while it is mounted to a wall. then run a thunderbolt cable (the 100ft one linus showed off :) to another room and enjoy silence on top a movie, youtube ect.

My dad got one off of Newegg for $150. We got the latest version supported and gave it 4GB of DDR2 laptop memory. Thing flies.

nice! The only one I've found for cheap has a broken lcd but for 200$ I could probably do something with it :P ... Maybe I should buy it , take it apart and mineral oil cool the main boards ! Omg ideas are a flying to me

I want to build a model of an F35 and the cockpit would be curved displays and could be opened so I can sit inside.  the afterburners would be 200mm exhaust fans, and the intake would be well, and intake. dedicated flight sim rig.

yeah same here(or go insane and get a brand new one) altough i also need to wait until i have a space to set things up for the work required to do that.

I was planning on setting all of my legacy rigs up and seeing how much computing power they had combined, but lets just say that I wouldn't be able to get them 'talking' to each other fast enough to actually use them for more than basic tasks. Even if I was somehow able to utilize 1 or 2 SDRAM slots.

-Build myself a decent (or overkill :P) PC that can actually run modern games.....

building a portal gaming pc in a hard case suitcase, where it opens would be the screen, all the components underneath and water cooled, all you would need is one cable connected to mains power..

I had the same idea , I suggested it to Linus when he was complaining about iMac overheating xP , I might do it one day when I can find a cheap iMac

 

I've got an iMac at home that I paid bugger all for (under $150 AUD), it's the C2D model with a gt120, Where would you even get parts to do such a thing?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Building a bad-ass gaming system without mechanical or moving  parts:

- no fan

- no pump

- no HDD

- no drive

 

-> passive cooled

 

And now I'm building it. Propably there is a relay somewhere in the PSU and the water in the heat pipes is moveing, but that's ok for me ;)

Mineral oil and 40 kg aluminium heat sinks are a perfect combination: 73 cores and a Titan X, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Oil
