Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

Almost sh*t my pants, doing a PC build, cable managing as I go. Using a SPEC-02 and the SSD drive bay is right where my front I/O cables are, in my stuggle to get the SSD in (had to take out the deive cage) I manage to pulled/push to hard on my USB 3.0 and bent a damn pin a mm or two out. Try to get the cable back on, holy the pin comes to 70 degrees from vertical...... I freak a bit, end up very slowly putting back into position, and well got the plug back in. Haven't been able to see if the thing works yet...

I bent the fan header on my new MSI Z97I AC, didn't even notice it.

The CPU fan didn't start spinning so I unplugged it and one pin was bent 90 degrees..I bent it back and luckily it didn't break off or something.

It got bent and still works, maybe am not S.O.L lol.

Broke the usb 3.0 cable on my brand new fractal design case by trying to make the thing bend a tight 180 degrees. One of the wires inside the cable broke. Thankfully I have a soldering iron, it works fine again.

Didn't account for the extra width of my foot due to the boots I was wearing, kicked the corner of my front panel as I was walking around the desk to my chair. Wouldn't have been a problem if nothing had been plugged in, but I had a mic and a flash drive in the front ports. The front mic port is no longer functional, it was nearly ripped out.

title is quite clear, i wana hear what shit deals and gadgets or whatever you have fell for over the years of PCing you have done, and no just saying buying a mac is not a valid one :P

il start of; i worked all summer and saved up about $800 and bought a prebuilt containing a 750TI and a 6core AMD. it preformed like utter garbage. i have since built a properly nice PC now that i worked all summer for too.

well thats the worst one i can think of so now you have a go! :P

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Getting a generic case and power supply. The buttons in the case broke and cut my fingers while i was doing some troubleshooting. The psu recently died and fortunately nothing died. I still don't have a discrete gpu. But not bothered much.

This is not terrible, I actually knew what I was doing when I got my 750Ti. I should of just spent the extra $10 on a 270x or 370 and got a new PSU though. Just, had no money, though the 750Ti will work as a great temporary GPU for any DOA GPUs in the future :)

a friend of mine got this on a 4770k -290x system, by my advise(pls dont judge me) before i was into the pc building thingy(1.5 year ago), and i tried to warn him afterwards. For the time being , he is still using it, but he is planning to change it.

While it's a mediocre PSU it's not as bad as a CX - it works fine till 35*C and all protections are in place - it's just cheap and works only in the EU so no 80+ bronze rating. Efficiency is also there. Mine had coil whine :D
