Being Good at Video Games Isn't Cool, Says Japanese Poll

You might be terrible at video games. You might be amazing. And if you're a guy who's good at games, does that make you cool? That's what one Japanese website wanted to find out. 
 

According to Buzz Plus, the following question was posed to two hundred women in Japan: "Do you think men who are good at video games are cool?"
 

As with any poll, this data doesn't speak to the opinions of all Japanese women and is only indicative of those who replied. Also, the poll doesn't appear to take into account same sex couples. So! Take this data for what it is: a poll.

Here are the results:

1. "I don't think they're cool." (59 percent)

2. "I think they're cool." (33.5 percent)

3. "It's rather creepy." (7.5 percent)
 

So yes, the majority of those polled didn't think being good at games was cool, with the more extreme opinions going as far as calling it a "waste of time" or "an illness." But opinions and perceptions varied. For example, one woman replied, "Until college it seems cool, but once you're in your late twenties, it becomes a bit much."
 

But that doesn't necessarily mean all those who don't think it's cool are against gaming per se. Said one woman, "I'm pretty good at video games, so it's not cool for me, but normal," while another added, "It's cool if you're a little good at video games." 
 

I dunno, I think it's cool when people are good at almost anything. It's interesting to see someone dedicate time and energy to master something. Maybe that's just me. 
 

But take heart. Buzz Plus noted that for some of the 33.5 percent who think gaming skills are cool, they might fall in love with a guy for that reason

I don't like the poll options. I find it astonishing to watch some players at games I play. I don't idolize them and I don't find all of them weird or creepy. So it's hard to make an in-between answer. I

Good thing I don't play games to be cool. I play games because they're fun and I have hella good times playing video games with ma bruh's.

 

P.S: this was conducted in Japan, hard to take those people serious when I know about all the f'ed up anime, pr0n and tv game shows they churn out on a daily basis..

I think that people who are good at video games have either 

 

1. Played a lot/Have too much time

2. Enjoy the game a lot

2. Natural talent

3. Pros that need money

 

Therefore, I don't really envy them, but good for them that they are good and doing what they enjoy.

Not really my decision of how they spend their time so I should't care.

I don't like the mentality against gamers. I find it to be bizarre and hypocritical. Especially from our more...elder...members of society who deem it healthy to watch reality TV and other nonsense (I don't mean good TV. Good TV shows are good TV shows that everyone should watch). I think its weird that society encourages the mindless consumption of one medium but abhors the consumption of the other, a medium that actually involves more thinking than simply watching TV. 

 

I like to think of myself as "the shit" when it comes to certain games, because I put that much time into them. Practice does make perfect and it doesn't surprise me that people get good at games. Just like after a few hundred hours of flying I'm really good with drones. Or after a couple years of photography I'm really good at that.
