I just started the torrent just to see how many seeders are there, and apparently there are 14 seeders. I am surprised that there are so many. I was expecting like 2 or something.

Wait for the password. If the torrent upload was automated as a result of him being not logging in, it might be set up so that the files first go online, then later the password, and this makes sense. The people can first download the file including government agenices, but without the password it could just be a hoax and cannot be legally taken down. Then he later releases the password once either a certain amount of people download it or a certain amount of time has passed and then bam! All trhe goodies inside will be revealed.

Someone would need fast download speeds in order to download this. Its like downloading a large brick until you find out the password.

Cool, unfortunately I don't have the space. As you I have 100Mbps speeds. Wouldn't mind if you would PM with a heads up of what it has.

Again, it's just a password protected archive file. As someone described it earlier, until we get the password it's like downloading a 1.7TB brick. I am not even getting good speeds (fired my client up again to check seeders, and it's currently at 15, so 1 more than before). And no, we won't be able to break the encryption. Hopefully the password will be released soon, and hopefully the archive do contains everything we think it contains.

download it and get cracking, isnt there a way we can spread the processing power required to crack it?

I don't think you understand how powerful AES-256 is. They recently discovered a flaw in AES which makes it 4 times as easy to crack. Here is a quite from the researchers who found it:

on a trillion machines, that each could test a billion keys per second, it would take more than two billion years to recover an AES-128 key

So let's assume it was an AES-128 container.

If we had 1,000,000,000,000 machines and all of them could test 1,000,000,000 keys a second, it would take 2,000,000,000 YEARS to crack.

Oh, but that's AES-128. This is AES-256... The thing with encryption algorithms is that the strength of an encryption relative to the key length is an exponential growth. Each additional bit doubles the strength of the key. So to return to our previous examples, with our trillion computers all testing a billion keys a second, it would take 8,000,000,000 years to crack AES 130, and 12,000,000,000 to crack AES 131.

So how much harder is AES-256 to crack than AES-128? Take AES-128, and then multiply it by this number:

340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456

That's over 340 undecillion times harder to crack. So unless I've made some error somewhere, it would be like this:

If we had 1,000,000,000,000 machines and all of them could test 1,000,000,000 keys a second, it would take 680,564,733,841,876,926,926,749,214,863,536,422,912,000,000,000 years to crack it.

680,564,733,841,876,926,926,749,214,863,536,422,912,000,000,000 - time it would take to crack with all those computers, in years.

13,770,000,000 - The age of the universe in years.

This is with the flaw by the way. Without it, it would be 4 times as long.

Either it's legit, or the most elaborately constructed prank. I'm leaning towards the latter, sounds way too good to be true considering the contents.

Well if you have been in the hacker community, you will know that these guys are the real deal.

The files are legit, but whether it is boring documentation only for devs or top secret roadmaps, i dont know.

What i know is that this kid is known for over exaggerating :) so it might just be source code (which can be nice) but it can also be boring documentation :) cant wait for someone to check the files :)

I think these guys would get more traction if they had more incriminating data on people of worth or of political might. Releasing game code, well is rather childish, its not like its going to be worldly important, except to gamers

Then again if any of you downloaded it and it included the source code for your favorite game, would you really spend the time and effort to compile it?

If anything the competitors to those games would be more interested in getting their hands on the code than the average gamer.
