A CS:GO streamer got SWAT called at him.

Gachr

I though he was a bit off the mark here, the rest of his videos are amazing.

Drugs have gone from hippy love to violent gangs over the last 50 years, police face more dangers in drug raids then ever IMO. The thing he doesn't mention is that the police are armed like that and using the tactics that they are because the non-violent protest by locals turned into a looting riot.

The police officer in question is being investigated by the FBI, and will be charged if necessary. Do remember that police are humans too, they have families that they worry about when they put on a uniform to protect us, if they feel threatened, they'll take these things in to account and fire, the officer is 99% likely to have been fearing for his life when he fired. But only time and the investigation will tell.

The issue is that the government is giving the police more and more military gear, armored cars, ak-47's, etc (yeah they are actually giving them surplus AK's now). While in some area's like the inner cities this might be a necessity, they are doing it in area's where it isn't. Theories abound as to why.

Funny I was just having the same discussion with a work mate just a minute ago. He was expressing much of the same as yourself but I am not so convinced. US Police use of SWAT teams and other specialised teams do not correlate with any increase in crime, increase in civil unrest or gun ownership.

Why they are the way they are I have no idea but I do feel that there is an atmosphere of fear and the US press (TV, Print, etc) only make things worse in my opinion.

They do it because they realize how much of a corner they have backed themselves into. They fear civil unrest as a result of some scandal or another, so one normal things they overreact and "flex their muscles" to try and keep people in fear of the police.

(not talking about the police themselves, talking about the politicians that set the policies for the police and give them orders)

"Bad news is good news" as they say in the press, negativity sells headlines.

I think in small towns there might be a bit of 'gung-ho' etc. where they don't do very much policing and then jump at the opportunity to throw on the SWAT gear and look badass.

The war on drugs and the war on terror that the government itself dug its own grave into with extremely ineffective policy and strategy on both counts must now militarize its police forces, and bolster its surveillance operations both legally and illegally, to keep the citizenry safe from its own mishandling.

Ever since Columbine & and all the copy cat school shootings American Law Enforcement has largely adopted an "active shooter" policy. What that means is they go in after the alleged suspects when they have preferably 3 officers & attempt to eliminate the threat as to minimize potential casualties.

In the old days the street patrol officers would simply establish a perimeter & wait for SWAT to come in to address the situation.

Only the larger municipalities have dedicated officers on a swat team. Typically towns about 250,000 or larger.

All of the smaller communities will have a "regional swat team" which comprises of officers from various agencies who train several times a month together & respond to a call much like a volunteer firefighter would. The idea is to have the tactical ability while spreading the cost over several agencies.

I'm not sure if this could be considered "Tech News", but I think it's related.

A Youtuber that goes under the name "Kootra" recently got SWAT called in on him.

Idiot kids, seriously, this is so fucked up and the punishment for this shouldn't be 10k $ and 1 year of prison, but rather the entire swat team get's to beat the shit out of the caller and piss on him.

I can't understand half of what you wrote, but basically, while Live Streaming a normal Twitch broadcast, this guy had the cops called on him. Most likely it was someone watching his stream that did it.

What they do is call the cops, and make up a fake story about how the streamer is shooting people or building a bomb or something. Then the cops react the call by (correctly) sending in the SWAT team.

The Police, and SWAT, have no idea what awaits them. They must act or civilians could die. They cannot possibly know it was fake or real until they check it out.
